My journal entry is based on a collection of posts related to a recent murder incident. On June 18, 2018, Florida rapper XXXTentacion was robbed and then gunned down in his own car. He had just exited a motorcycle shop when the situation occurred in broad daylight and many people were all around. In the heat of the moment, the majority of the people present whipped out their cellphones in a panic. Their agenda was not to call the police or an ambulance for assistance, but they recorded the 20 year old rappers lifeless body for their Snapchat story. Zooming in on an injuried celebrity for instance gratification from the people on their social media was more important than trying to contact help. XXXTentacion’s body was all over the internet in seconds, before any emergency assistance was called. The passersby felt they did nothing wrong by posting a murder on the internet before the situation was assessed and before his family was notified. Their argument was that they were not trained to help, and it really is not their problem because they were just passing by. They said that he was a celebrity and that is just what happens when you are famous. Your business gets out. I feel like that argument is so invalid because I believe people should always help however they can in an emergency. Many people do not think the same way, which is understandable, but if those people had provided any immediate assistance to the situation, there could have been a possibility of saving his life. Extreme situations can lock people up, or force them to engage. I feel social media is starting to detach people from other humans more than it is helping us come together.

The contention between Trump supporters and anti-Trump activists catches everyone in the crossfire when people only look at one side of the argument. Whether or not you support him as President, it’s vital that he be judged by his actions without bias. When he was running for President, people claimed that his brash attitude would spark conflict with foreign nations, especially North Korea. Just this month President Trump met with North Korean leader Kim-Jong-Un and discussed peace talks. An agreement between the two was even signed in the aim to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. The threat of nuclear war with North Korea was looming above all of our heads but a year ago, if things go well, then that fear shall subside soon. This seems like a monumental achievement, but it seems as though those who are extremely anti-Trump are looking the other way now that he’s done the opposite of their expectations. Obviously, it’s not set in stone and there’s going to be more details and news on the subject to come, but this is a step in the right direction. Let’s acknowledge that and look toward the future. This case reminds me of the recent Parkland Shooting coverage. It was a terrible tragedy and the children involved have been scarred from the experience. After the shooting, news outlets all over covered the story in all its details for weeks and now even months. Many of those who support gun control used this incident to convince people that AR-15s are too easy to obtain and are nothing more than weapons of mass destruction. Radicals even used this to push the idea that white males are inherently hostile and are at fault for it. Not long after, a foreign, vegan, PETA member, woman shot up YouTube headquarters with nothing more than a pistol, injuring 4 people, and it was barely covered for a week and was quickly forgotten. Obviously, the Parkland shooting was a far bigger deal as far as body count, however, the fact that she was not a white male, didn’t use an AR-15, and was supposedly a bastion to society for protecting animals, she still lashed out on people in the same manner. Regardless of how efficient she was, it just goes to show that maybe the mass murder issue is unrelated to the weapon used, race, or gender. Perhaps the issue lies in the mental state of these people instead. If we could look objectively at the facts of these cases, we could all come to a solution much faster.

It has been brought to everyone’s attention about the article of clothing the First Lady of the United States chosen to wear for the occasion of visiting a children’s shelter in Texas. The jacket of choice is olive green colored painted with the words “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” which sparked controversy due to the timing of the US being in a midst of chaos due to Trump’s Immigration policy. Because of the choice of words written on the back of the jacket, viewers are attempting to analyze the reasoning or motive behind it with questions such as, who’s is the targeted audience? Is she referencing to the policy or the media? Is she secretly disagreeing with her husband and is ready to go against him? The list goes on for this is a mystery awaiting to be solved.
To begin with, entering the article after seeing the title depicts a hint of satire as they refer to the First Lady as a “Agent of Coat Chaos”. As being the First Lady, she has much more responsibilities on her plate rather than attempting to always ensemble a fashion show ready outfit for every event. The article was completely biased from the beginning from the satirical title to the degrading of choice of clothing from Melania. The brand of jacket raised eyebrows due to the fact that the jacket is only set to be $40 and is a 2016 collection from the brand Zara (yes viewers actually wanted to research this one jacket to determine the price to attack Melanie). For other occasions, Melania is known for wearing Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, etc, but viewers are fascinated by the new line she wore from – Zara. The audience intends for the jacket, many hope or assume it is an act of rebellion agains Trump for his recent choice of actions amongst immigrants. Melania is aware there is footage or cameras following around her 24/7. I believe the jacket is intended for the media itself as a statement of her saying she will continue to do whatever she desires. On a more important note, our nation is dividing much more than ever and people are rather fascinated by FLOTUS’s choice of clothing rather than politics itself. People truly rather analyze one “secret hidden” message on a jacket worn in public than to focus on the reality of our current nation’s policies. This proves people’s priorities to jump into any belief that is beneficial to their point of view and take the time to attack someone (i.e. FLOTUS) they don’t like, than to do something productive in their lives.

Two teenage girls were banned from United Airlines by wearing ordinary leggings. When the incident happened one of the policy’s was; “Passengers who are barefoot or not properly clothed.” This policy allows United Airline to refuse service to women wearing leggings, which does not describe what ‘properly clothed’ is. I believe from there rules that they should describe more of what properly is and what not to wear. From reading more information about American Airline, pass riders are United employees or dependents of employees, traveling free or at a discount. It states that travelers with the airline employee travel pass must profit a more sophisticated dress wear than paying passengers, so I was assuming they were pass riders or dependents of employees because they got banned for wearing inappropriate clothing. Throughout the article it talks a lot about how they where two girls, not boys, which makes it ‘sexiest’ according to certain people. Also that those girls were teenagers and were in all likelihood informed of dress code (teenagers can read and follow rules too, right?) I’m quite sure that men aren’t allowed to wear things like tank tops or spandex when traveling under this program. The title of the article is “two girls barred from United flight for wearing leggings”, in my opinion I believe the publisher should have mentioned more facts in the title like; “United denied two inappropriately dressed pass riders”. I believe United did nothing wrong. The pass riders were dressed inappropriately due to the dress code for free travel. Anyone not agreeing can purchase a ticket and dress as they wish.

In this article, it is talking about a recent news article with a misleading picture. The popular newspaper media, TIMES, had posted a picture of the little girl crying being separated from her parents. The article states how the TIMES image was misleading and the little girl was never separated for her parents. The mother was asked to set the child down so she could be searched. The kid started to cry because she was hungry and it was 11 PM. The article states that the father did not know this but in the meantime, they are still waiting to see what happens with them. This is relating to what our class has discussed and I feel this article is having a bit of flawed claims to back their message. They are overall saying that the mother and daughter are fine and were not separated, but the article never confirmed that the family has stayed together until the end. This is coming to show that the media is just trying to show their side that they are not doing wrong. I do not really agree with this article and although, yes, the child might be okay now and was not crying due to separation, there are still hundreds of children out there that are. This is only a one incident thing and doesn’t support their claim that basically the immigration policy doesn’t separate children.
This article also reminded me of what we’ve discussed on visual images that help us. The picture, as you can see, really makes a greater impact of the reality of the article. When you see this picture, it makes you feel really sad and upset with the children crying. In my honest opinion, if the picture wasn’t there, I feel it wouldn’t have such of an impact. When we see actual visual images, it helps us grasp the idea of the reality of whatever situation is happening.

In this article, Sarah McLachlan, the star in the famous “Angel” commercial about animal cruelty, expresses her feelings toward her own PSA commercial. Although the commercial itself was successful in raising over $30 million for the campaign, McLachlan is like many of us who cares about animals. According to Danelle Anderson, the writer for this articles, states that McLachlan “can’t watch them… it just kills me”. After the commercial, McLachlan gained a new audience. People started to brand and label her as the “dog lady” or “Arms of the Angel” Lady.
I recall analyzing this commercial in my English 101 class. We were going over the effectiveness of pathos and images. Essentially we were analyzing visual rhetoric. No one in class even asked what happened to the money that was raised or whether or not the ASPCA was reputable or not. No one even question if the statistics Mclachlan provided were true or not. We ASSUMED that all the animal were genuine rescues recovering from abuse. We ASSUMED that everything was true. It is true that an image is worth a thousand words, and that it can sometimes explain a story better than text. However an image is only a snapshot and does not include the full story. The truth is that an image does not include the full context. As critical thinkers, it is important to exercise asking questions and being skeptical. Seeing this commercial from another perspective opened up a new way of thinking and alternatives to help.

What is the ideal model? One would picture a thin, tall, and fair skin individual. Recently in the modeling world there is a new category which are ‘plus size’ models. It has been finally introduce in the modeling world that beauty can be found in any weight and height size. For so long models were known to be thin, to society that was how they wished to look like. With ‘plus size’ models it gave women the hope that they can be accept by society if they have more weight on them or they with taller or shorter than average. The article fears that ‘plus size’ models is encouraging the obesity epidemic. What the ‘plus’ size’ models are doing is bring awareness such as body positive. These woman who are ‘plus size’ model promote plus size clothing and the article believes that with more plus size sections in clothing store that people will gain more weight. In reality these woman on their social media talk about eating right and working out.
Working in retail stores, Levi and Tillys, I have had to buy clothes online because in those stores there was no plus size section. I do not believe that having plus size clothing more available will promote people to gain more weight. Not having to search for plus size clothing and having it in more clothing store will allow overweight individual feel at eased and accepted.
Each of us make the decision to work out and to lose, gain, and maintain their weight. Instead of focusing on the clothing and if models are causing more obesity perhaps we should like at the main reason of obesity which is the food being provide to society.

This article describes the difference between implicit bias and racism and its meaning in politics. What many people do not realize is that implicit bias is not the same thing as racism although they are made out to be the same thing. Implicit bias, according to the article, is something acquired by each individual just by growing up around certain people. It is one of the things that is impossible to get rid of. This article uses many political viewpoints on this word from people such as Mike Pence and Phillip Atiba Goff, president of the Center for Policing Equity at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. This word is regarded as a dirty word because of its connotation, but implicit bias allows us to express differences in thought without being racist, despite popular belief. As it is now, implicit bias is being used incorrectly as a political term to talk about discrimination and unfairness of other races. Implicit bias will quickly lose its footing in the scientific community if it becomes a political term.

President Trump met the “American victims of illegal immigration” on Friday June 22,2018. He defended the policy for separated illegal child migrants from their parents and emphasized that based considerations on public safety. He is hosting families of people killed by illegal immigrants to tell their stories, and He tell media: Those Family of the U.S. Citizens suffered is “Forever” Disbanded. “They’re not separated for a day, or two days,” the president said. “They’re permanently separated, because they were killed by criminal illegal aliens.”
Those who support illegal immigration are really need thinking more than humanitarian . It is wrong to sneak over to the United States. The risk is that the smugglers should bear the risk themselves. I want to know that the smugglers know that. After catching the smugglers, the United States only proceeded according to the procedure and repatriated the smugglers. Now that smugglers and humanitarian supporters demand rights such as human rights, I have always wondered why these people talk to the average person (eg, legal immigrants) about their rights and talk about fairness. They are people and I am also people! I get through work. To the Green Card, it is through legal means to obtain identities. If the United States complains about illegal immigration, then how should the United States “report German” to legal immigrants?
Those who support illegal immigration should go to ICE or work at US Border Control to try to cope with the maternal infantry. I think after a week or two they will want to consolidate the border.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/pharmacist-denied-miscarriage-drug_us_5b2fa267e4b0040e2743f360
This article is about a woman whose pharmacist refused to administer the prescription she was needing filled. The woman had found out earlier that week that her 10 week old fetus no longer had a heartbeat and had stopped developing. She was prescribed a medication from her doctor that would help her body miscarry the deceased fetus. The pharmacist denied her prescription because it violated his personal morals. I think that this is an abuse of power in some ways, and is a prime example of bias. Because this individual was pro-life, he automatically felt entitled to reject a prescription that even remotely correlated with the idea of abortion. Per store policy, these actions were supported- to some extent. In cases such as these, that employee would need to hand the prescription off to someone else working to complete. Instead this employee made her feel worse about her situation, refused to understand that this was necessary and not by choice, and she ultimately left empty handed and humiliated. This employee let his personal bias prevent him from doing his job, and projected himself negatively on an innocent woman in a sad situation. We are all entitled to our own beliefs, opinions, and values. I do not think the pharmacist was wrong in not wanting to prescribe the miscarriage drug, however I do think it was wrong the way he handled the situation. If it isn’t hurting us or impacting us directly, we should be able to see past our personal bias and beliefs and allow others to do what it is they are needing or wanting to do.

I chose to write about the swathe of posts across the internet blaming Trump for the separation of children at the border. It isn’t just one post so I don’t have an exact link. I am So tired of hearing about this issue. Not because of what is happening, but the way it is being told and used. Website after website, day after day keep posting an increasing number of children being separated from their parents, and in the same breath blaming Trump and his policies for such abominable actions.
First of all this issue has been around since Obama was in office and nobody batted an eye, but as soon as Trump gets in office and begins to crack down on illegal immigration, it’s all his fault. Before I go any further I want to make sure I state that I am totally against separating families at the border. I don’t believe they should be allowed to cross the border either, but separating them seems like an unnecessary evil. That being said, this vehement demonization of the President by the liberal media is way out of line. Instead of reporting the situation in an unbiased manner with the intent of garnering sympathy for the plight of those trying to cross, they use it like a weapon to point blame at Trump so they can further their agenda. I sincerely doubt many of them care about the kids at all, aside from what their suffering can do for them and their political party.

This week I chose an article called “These Girls Are Crowned the World’s Most Beautiful Twins and Their Pictures Have Taken the Internet by a Storm!”. This article is about a beautiful and real life family who consisted of a loving father and mother, a son, and two gorgeous female twins. The controversy in the article was whether or not the twins should go into the crazy world of modeling and fame. Children modeling is a very controversial topic with many bias’ from people all over the world. The Mother of the twins was aware of the bias’ and only wanted the best for her girls. She decided to wait until the girls turned 7 to introduce them to the modeling world. Just as the mother expected, by allowing her children to model at such a young age there was numerous judgmental people on both the girls instagram page and the mother’s blog. Most of the harsh comments included were about the young twins wearing too much makeup. However, their mother responded very eloquently in stating that in a ll types of modeling at any ages makeup is in fact involved. Their mom does go on to say that their age is a factor in how much and at all the photoshoots the girls kept a natural light look giving their age. I agree with the mother that her young twins modeling is not a bad thing because they wanted to do it and their mom is very careful in maintaining their youthfulness and not letting them grow up too fast.

In this news article Fox News shows a clip of Seth Rogen on a late night show. Where Rogen tells a story of how Paul Ryan walked up to him with his kids and asked him for a pictures. So he told them, “NO, MAN!” and that he couldn’t stop and continued to tell him he couldn’t wait for the day he was no longer in the power that Ryan’s is in.” The morning new people where talking about how they had give their thoughts about what happened. Rogan responded over Twitter saying, “Oh man. Now my TL is gonna be filled with virtue signaling snowflakes who are offended by my free speech.”. The reporters went on to say they are offended by his free speech, they didn’t care for his stupid speech. They said he was picking on the kids by going on their dad and not taking a picture with them cause they are fans. They went on to talk about how they don’t really care who he is but what they didn’t like was how he was kind mocking them saying oh ya there just fans and not caring. Cause he has something against their dad, the kids couldn’t chose who their dad was. They went on to say people are tired if seeing the lack of decency thats not happening in this country anymore.
Normal I don’t pay attention many celebrities or people in government, but I do have to agree with the news reporters when they say people are tired seeing lack of decency in this country. It always seems like people don’t care about one another and have a hard time thinking beyond themselves. It also doesn’t help that Seth Rogan called people snowflakes.

After visiting Geneva, Pope Francis on the plane encouraged countries to accept refugees. Since the U.S. immigration policy has received negative comments regarding the separating of families. The pope also endorsed proposals to provide jobs in African countries, in order to reduce future immigration. He discussed this issue because many immigrants are being returned to Lybia were they await prison. I guess his argument is to create a more united world, rather than negating the opportunity for an immigrant family to improve their way of living.
The pope tried to persuade via media, however, he uses more emotional appeals. Which can be accepted since he is a religious figure and probably was not prepared to answer such questions regarding immigration. An irony that is present in his argument is the explicit assumption that places like Italy and Greece do accept immigrants. Though, these countries do not want more refugees coming from the sea. I like how he stood up for the people, but his solution is ‘better said than done’. Other countries might be unlikely to accept his argument since they might not see any benefit from accepting people, it actually can increase the amount of immigration to any country that accepts them and later on, be a problem. Governments might feel some empathy towards these people but accepting them without giving a thought of how to handle the multitude is not an option. Their resources can’t be given that easily. In addition, when he compared Libyan prisons with World War II camps, I think he could probably have used a ‘scare tactic fallacy’ to generate more understanding for immigrant people.

For weeks, the immigration policy has been the main topic. Immigration is still being detained at the Mexican border but family is not separate anymore. The Democrats declare war with Trump, due to the immigration policies. The Democrats are calling Trump out saying that Trump is worse than Hitler. The Democrats believe that all immigrants legal or not, deserve to be welcome here in the United States. As the Democrats are calling Trump out, they are not doing anything to the border control either. As democratic Bill de Blasio, aka Mayor Putz, mayor of New York flew all the way to Texas to help the 200 immigrant children at the Mexican Border but he couldn’t do anything when he got there. Ten of thousands of illegal crossers are being bused to unsuspecting communities across America until they have an immigration hearing. Meanwhile, Trump is standing strong and is continuing to fulfill his promise of building a wall. I disagree with the Democratic, they are not doing anything to help the situation bit yet call trump names. The democratic wants to call Trump a Hitler and not allow immigration to come into the United States, but in reality, Democrats are not doing anything also to help control the immigrates to come over. As for Blasio, he knows that he cannot do anything for the 200 immigrant children but yet he wants to show that he cares, it’s all politic, to win votes.

This article is about new outlet Fox News apologizing for creating a misleading news segment on their channel. That made it seem that that the reason the Philadelphia Eagles’ meeting with President Trump at the White House to commemorate their Super Bowl Victory was cancelled due to the controversial movement of football players kneeling during the national anthem. Fox News accomplished this by displaying various photos of Eagles players kneeling. The reality was that the photos were of kneeling players were taken before the national anthem was playing and the players were just in prayer. This caused Eagle’s player Zach Ertz to write on twitter, “This can’t be serious…. Praying before games with my teammates, well before the anthem, is being used for your propaganda?! Just sad, I feel like you guys should have to be better than this”. Other players such as Malcolm Jenkins commented that Fox News, “paint the picture that these players are anti-America, anti-flag and anti-military.” The White House issued a statement regarding the cancellation, ‘“the great majority of [Eagles] players’ were not planning to attend the scheduled White House celebration and that ‘the vast majority of the Eagles team decided to abandon their fans.’” This relate to class in how media is sometimes used to mislead. Fox News is notorious for being conservative and favor right wing ideal. They took a simple announcement and flipped it to cater to their demographic of viewers. It is because of their bias of being patriotic and pro-military Fox News took a controversial topic in sports and made villains out of the Philadelphia Eagles. It comes to show that one has to question media and not take everything at face value.

I chose this article because many people on social media have become so angry that they have lost the ability to logically evaluate the circumstance. The article details the reaction that a woman is facing because of calling the police on a little girl selling water in San Francisco. The article mostly focusses on the blowback that the woman who called the cops on the girl selling water. A totally absurd reaction to the incident was a twitter post by User HollaBlackGirlMagic, the Tweet reads “This is why gentrification is a form of violence. This white woman is selling weed and profiting while black folks sit in prison for life for the same thing, but then she calls the cops on a little black girl selling bottled water.”. An image is displayed in the tweet, in which the woman who called the cops on the little girl selling water is shown holding products from the medical marijuana dispensary that she is CEO of. Ok first, what the young girl was doing was a health hazard. A lemonade stands, and a water stand are both beverages that we take into our body, and dangerous bacteria and diseases can be taken in if professionals are not handling the foods and beverages we take in. The woman was likely not calling the cops to be spiteful of the young girl, she was likely calling out of concern; however, this is my own assumption due to the little information is given. Calling the cops was a bit of an overreaction, perhaps, she should have politely spoken with the child’s mom and informed her of the little girl’s wrongdoing (the wrongdoing is at a very minor level). Now, (sighs) the post by HollaBlackGirlMagic. She is attacking the lady who called the cops on the young girl by attacking the woman’s career. The woman is the CEO of a medical marijuana dispensary, which is entirely legal in the state of California. Twitter user HollaBlackGirl is arguing that the CEO of the marijuana dispensary is selling weed but not put in jail, and black CEO’s of dispensaries are being put in jail for selling weed. Unless she is, of course, comparing the illegal sale of marijuana on the street to the sale of marijuana through a licensed business that has been given legal permission to do so. This is just a brain dump by me, but I’m just thinking here. Selling water on the street with no permit is to be a licensed food vendor, as is selling marijuana on the street is to be a legal dispensary permitted to operate in the state of California.

I decided to write about the article titled “Woman Dubbed Peppermint Patty for calling Police on a Black Girl Denies It was Racial” In the article it talks about how this female Ettle was working in her office with the windows open while an 8 year old little girl Rodgers was outside selling waters. According to Ettle she calmly came outside and asked Rodgers and her mother Austin to stop being so loud trying to get people to but the waters. The way Austin saw it was that Ettle came down and demanded to see Rodger’s permit. After Ettle saw she didn’t have one she called the police. Ettle denies calling the police. Austin said that her daughter was trying to get some money because Austin had just lost her job and Rodgers wanted to go to Disneyland. Ettle says that Rodger’s race had nothing to do with it and she just wanted quite so she could work. Although Ettle has tried to apologize to Austin and Rodgers they will not accept her apology. Ettle says she is getting horrible hate mail and death threats. This article stood out to be because we talked about how some things aren’t what they seam. If you look at the video you might think that this might be something racial but in reality maybe race had nothing to do with it. The same people dubbing this woman as racist are in my opinion not looking at the whole picture. Maybe it was a woman trying to work peacefully. I believe that had the women not been so mean to each other both coming with their own basis then they could have both resolved this issue quickly. If everyone stops throwing race around then maybe things can just be two women who disagreed. Putting race into things is a big jump form a simple disagreement. These believes are so ingrained by society that nobody can see the facts. Rodgers and Austin feel like they have been racically profiled. Ettle feels the same. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/white-woman-dubbed-permit-patty-calling-police-black-girl-denies-n886226
