This week we have been focusing on visuals and rhetoric. You can analyze an image or find an interesting text to analyze rhetorically. You can also locate an article, news report, or social media post to respond to. You can respond to any of the articles or topics discussed in the class.
First, summarize what the post is saying and what you understand them to be arguing.
Second, respond to the article with what we have been learning in class.
- Analyze an image or visual post.
- Evaluate the argument they are making.
- Explain any bias you see in the post.
- Point out unsupported claims.
- If you agree, help them better support their argument. If you disagree, explain why.
- Notice the use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos
Make sure your journal response is at least 250 words long. Comment below with a link and your response.
This article reviews lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming involves individuals who are able to control elements in their dream. Often times, when human beings dream, they are not aware that they are dreaming; people think their dream is reality. Lucid dreaming is when an individual is dreaming and is able to acknowledge they are dreaming. The individuals who usually experience lucid are usually in their mid-20s. In addition, researchers explain how lucid dreaming can be positive for individuals. Lucid dreaming therapy can prevent a person from nightmares. People can take control of the nightmare within their dream; which can be difficult because the dream feels like reality. However, if one can realize they’re dreaming in their nightmare; they have the potential to use lucid therapy. Once they perform lucid therapy, they can then control elements within the dream and prevent future nightmares and the nightmares that recurring in the individual dreams. The image that is presented in this article is a boat floating in a galaxy; there are also clouds; which the bloat is floating into.
I chose this article because we were reviewing how to analyze a visual image. In class, we were informed that visuals can make individuals have inference and change their perspective on thigs. For example, we have presented an image of an apple in class. Us students had to write whatever thoughts had come into mind based on the one image of an apple. This article presented an image that can make you have divergent thoughts while you analyze it. All in all, this article was relevant because we reviewed the topic of analyzing a visual.

This image is an advertisement created by an organization found in Australia called, Save the Children. This photo shows a young child from Mandera, which is located in Northern Kenya. The image shows this young boy who is trying to collect water from a river that is dirty full of trash and the water is polluted. The water the child is trying to collect shows that it is clearly contaminated and dirty. The visual shows the child is encased in a container, as if you were looking at a display in a history exam. In front of the case there is a plaque with the words on bold, “CONTAMINATED DRINKING WATER. Mandera, Northern Kenya c.2009.” On the top of the image, there is a message in bold font reading, “WE MUST MAKE THIS A THING OF THE PAST.” The image is a statement that we must protect and save the children who are going through this. The goal of this visual is to expose the reality of what issues children are facing around the world and the message is to encourage the reader to be a part of the solution.
In class we discussed the different types of emotional appeals that are used when it comes to analyzing images or descriptions can even leave emotional appeal to the reader. The creator of this advertisement is using the appeals to pity, they are showing something to us that creates the feeling of guilt. Many of us have access to clean drinking water and sometimes it’s taken for granted. I chose this picture because to me, it shows different meanings. In class we went over the concept of the differences between seeing and looking. In this image we can see the child is malnourished and is picking up dirty drinking water contained in a clear case, but looking at the photo we are looking at the connotation that we need to help these children and make this occurrence a thing of the past.

The image above shows a young boy, roughly age 6-8, pretending to shave his face next to his assumed father in the mirror, as his father actually shaves his face. I would like to believe this image is actually a frame taken from an advertisement released by Gilette in 2019 that not only advertises their shavers, but uncovers the raw truth about bullying, sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement. Essentially, the issue of toxic masculinity is being addressed which is rooted in what we teach our children who are the future. This image is especially powerful because it captures how easily it is to manipulate a child’s mindset, and what a significant role their up-bringing plays in their later adulthood.. Toxic masculinity is the concept of traditional culture masculinity that can be harmful to men and women- Gilettes passive purpose was to spread awareness and encourage positive change- parents have the power to eliminate toxic masculinity culture and build a better future society where sexual harassment and movements like #MeToo can be prevented.
Emotional appeal was a large topic covered in class this week and the many messages an image can send through thorough analysis- this image certainly evokes emotion from viewers, along with appeals of pity and self-interest. On the surface, the young boy mirroring what his father is doing is cute, simply a young boy following his father’s footsteps. However, it’s thought provoking- what are we teaching our children, and is what we’re teaching our children moral? If we examine the image alone, it sends the message that our children are what we teach them as we pass down traditions, ideas, and concepts… Similar to the image of a small child in a KKK cloak. If we were to continue teaching our children concepts from the 60’s society would never grow- we must continue improving intellectually, parents recognize the powerful influence they have on their children, and use it carefully to ensure a better future for society as a whole.

Castor oil is a derived from the seeds of a planet called ricinus communis. It’s used for inducing pregnancy, it helps as a laxative and helps jump start labor. It helps but making sure when to take it is the important part they say between 39-40 weeks when your considered full term. Most doctors want you to induce naturally and that can be done in many ways by squatting or walking , having sexual inner course, and the latest craze the baby mama dance which is going viral all around the world.
Doctors also want to inducing if tour pregnancy is two weeks past your due date or having contractions and water hasn’t broke.
This study was published nearly 10 years later in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and gynaecology. One hundred pregnant women who attended the hospital for giving birth was selected from the previously mentioned setting. The sample was divided as follow: 50 women already took castor oil and 50 women didn’t take castor oil at the time of birth. Results: there were a lot of maternal complications that had been occurred among castor oil group in comparison with control group such as fatigue (12.0%), nausea & vomiting (20.0%) and excessive uterine activity (12.0%) compared to (8.0%, 4.0% ,4.0%) from the control group respectively. About one fifth 18 % of castor oil group had amniotic fluid mixed with meconium. In addition, a highly statistical significant difference was found between the two groups at the first minute APGAR score (t=2.65 at p=0.009). Conclusion: It can be concluded that, the probability of labour initiation increases during the first 24 hours after using castor oil. In addition, taking castor oil increases the chances of meconium stained amniotic fluid. Most side effects caused by taking castor oil are fatigue, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Definitely consult your doctor before trying to induce with this castor oil and I’ve heard it taste disgusting.
There’s so many things you can do to induce labor, but the safest one is what your doctor wants you to do.

This image above shows a black teenager being attacked by a police German Shepherd. It seems in the photo that the policeman allowed his dog to attack the African American boy on purpose at the civil rights event they were attending. This image was taken by Bill Hudson and became an iconic photo for years to come.
However, the context of the photo is very different than it seems. Walter Gadsden, the young black man in the photo, was attending the events only to watch, not participate. He was not afraid of large dogs at all, since he owned one himself. And the police officer, officer Middleton, was a very nice man who always kept his dog on a leash.
Looking closer at the photo, we can see that Officer Middleton is restraining his dog Leo while trying to grab Walter’s sweater. We can also see that Walter is shoving his knee into Leo’s throat, and this actually broke the dog’s jaw. Walter Gadsden did not get hurt at all, but Leo had to be treated by a vet because of all his injuries.
In any case, it is so important to have the right research before jumping to conclusions, especially visually. It is so easy for people to look at something and automatically reach a conclusion of the meaning of the image. At first glance, Hudson’s photo looks like an amazing perspective of the civil rights issue. It seems to be the perfect demonstration of what really happened at the civil rights events. However, when plunging deeper into the origin and context of the photo, it tells a completely different story.

The image I chose was what earth looks like in the present compared to what the earth may look like if we do not take control of the conditions we are putting it through. On the right side of the photo shows earth as beautiful and green. Then the left side shows the conditions the earth could be in if we do not begin to take action with stabilizing our climate crisis. With the levels of pollution and harmful gases to the environment, we could soon be the excuse for our own extinction. Climate control is crucial for the future and our living abilities. Without taking a stand now, the world as a whole can begin to slowly suffer more and more.
This image is very credible because it shows a side by side view of how the world is today versus what it can turn out like. It is important to take these views into consideration for the better of our earth. It also incorporates emotions because if you take a closer look into the left side of the image, our once so amazing environment is dying completely off. It is up to everyone to make a change for us to be able to live comfortably years down the road. Lastly it is also very logical that that everyone begin to partake in this world issue for us to all begin to make a difference. It takes everyone as a whole to make the effort for change. The slightest difference from everyone can be enough to decipher the world becoming healthier and more green again.

Is this really racist? I do not think so because people are fearing for there lives. as in the article “disease turns one ground of people against each other. People think it is racist but it is really that they are looking out for there safety. I am relating this to class as we talked about discrimination. It shows the fear and their emotion and it grabs your attention. a baise is that if it is any raise people would react the same way.

The image I chose to analyze is a college student looking to give his graduation speech to an enormous bag labeled student loan debt with the money sign as the letter S. The image was drawn by an editorial cartoon artist named Bob Englehart. The image depicts the reality students will face once they graduate college. Bob Englehart is an employee for The Hartford Journal. He has also been nominated Pulitzer Price in 1979 for his work. Englehart depicts the huge problem of the amount of debt accumulated to better yourself by receiving a college education, plus the increasing tuition cost. It’s a worldwide know issue you don’t have to be personally suffering from to understand the strudels for students and families to pay off college debt. The pathos appeals to multiple audiences from college students, to families, and anyone aware of the cost of education. The image directly shows a young student trying to imagine his fire but all he can see is the heavily weighed pressure of this giant loan and the lack of job security requirements opportunity of paying the loan back. Research in the U.S. shows over decades the amount of students taking out higher loans to go to school only to be enslaved for longer periods of time to pay it off after they graduate.
Englehart really captures the issue by appealing to all 3 key areas: pathos, ethos, and Logos to bring awareness to the issue of college tuition increasing and enslaving students to the future of paying off the loan.

this picture depicts workers working in a factory manufacturing some sort of object, but if you look closer you notice the stripped uniforms, shaved heads young workers mixed with older workers and men in uniforms maintaining the facility. this is a picture of a German Nazi clothing manufacturer. the name of the man who own these prisoners is Hugo Boss, he made high end clothes for the Germans whether it was uniforms for the officers and soldiers or working clothes for the every day German. Hugo was a proud Nazi, acting as the typical Nazi he subjected his prisoners to unfit living conditions and if they chose to flee for safety he sent them to camps that were known for the high kill rates. Although this clothing line had begun in 1923, it is continuously active in today society. conscience of its past the company was transferred to Hugos son in law after he had been fined and convicted of his actions. the clothing line is still actively a high end line and avoids any connection or publicity that was acquired from the prior owner.
i chose this picture because society tends to forget about the wrong doings of evil people. as it may seem like a innocent picture, it is a powerful, dark, menacing picture. the crime and disaster caused by the Germans is irreparable, no matter the compensation nor apologies the amount of lives and hatred acquired throughout the years of disaster can never be repaired. this picture applies to the class because we had a discussion on equal rights. had the Nazis allowed the Jews to be apart of their society they may have progressed in a positive manner than that of regressing and scarring history in their movement. i believe all associations had by the Nazis should have been destroyed with their rule. the company should not be able to obtain profit to this day off the death of innocent bi standards. the world is very biased when it comes to receiving money and this company is proof of that,

The image that I chose to analyze this week is a political cartoon that focuses on the current standing of the Democratic primaries. In this cartoon, there is a pie chart that shows that Sanders has probably 25% of the support from democrats but because there are so many candidates, that is the majority candidate but it means that 75% of the party does not support Sanders. I chose this cartoon mainly because it relates to the proposal that I wrote. I wrote about voting systems and this is one of the many shortcomings of our voting system, that a candidate can have not be supported by a majority of the party but still be the winner. This will also most likely lead to the spoiler effect in the final election because democratic support is split among so many candidates.
This cartoon is making the argument that this system is not effective and does not accurately represent the democratic party’s preference. It seems like this cartoon was made by a democrat who does not like Bernie. I think that political cartoons are inherently biased because they make overly simplified arguments using generalizations and stereotypes. The claim is not supported with evidence in the cartoon but there is evidence outside of the cartoon which supports their claim. It would be hard to really flesh out an argument using a political cartoon but Dr. Arrow has done a lot of research into choice theory and how to better represent a groups choice.
The cartoon uses Logos in that it is using a real situation that is happening right now. It uses Pathos by utilizing the image of the DNC and the notion in america that socialism is bad.

Back in 2018 the former quarterback for the San Francisco 49er’s, Kolin Kaepernick, had been protesting the NFL by kneeling during the national anthem. Week by week he would kneel during the anthem, receiving criticism from fans and players all over the world. As a result, he had lost his job and reputation in the NFL. He lost his job because many people wanted him home because it was a “lack of respect” for our country. There were two sides to this argument, many saw this as disrespectful, while the other side saw this as freedom of speech. Kolin Kaepernick soon became an icon for the sports world as far as believing in your own rights no matter the cost. He was partnered with Nike and as a result, Nike agreed to promote an ad invoking Kaepernick. In the ad it shows the phrase “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
Nike backed up Kolin’s words because by promoting this, it demonstrated whose side Nike was on. Many people were upset and caused a protest against Nike where there were people burning and throwing away all their Nike related products. The ad showed examples of ethos and pathos. Ethos because of his actions and beliefs. Kolin’s actions backed up his words posted on the ad. He never gave up in supporting his beliefs and because of it he lost his quarterback job and has not played in an NFL game to this day. This shows that while football is his passion, his words and beliefs mean a lot more to him. It also shows pathos because it shows his eyes and the picture is in black and white. This shows a more serious tone and shows that Kaepernick has a vision. The phrase also ties in to Nike’s famous slogan, “Just do it.” Kaepernick in loose terms “did it.” He stood up for his beliefs and even if it cost his his career he never regretted it.
This image is kind of 4th dimensional because not only did it involve some phrase it involved a real life situation he was going through at the time. Unlike an ad promoting something with a fake scenario, this ad was inspired by real events by a real person. The article explains how in the end Nike chose a side in this argument and was prepared with the repercussions that followed.

“Washington hopes locking non vaccinated kids out of school will prevent its next measles outbreak”, I found this article written by Nicole Westman on popsci.com. It demonstrates some of the consequences that are now present due to non-vaccinators. There have been recent measles outbreaks in Washington among a county where only 76.5 % of kindergartners were vaccinated. Which initiated the governor to declare a public state of emergency. This authorizes officials to isolate people who don’t or can’t get vaccinated for an ongoing breakout and keep these students or staff from going to school. In some cases, they even close schools. The writer also interviews James Hodge a professor of public health, law, and ethics for his expertise on the measles outbreak, and how state of emergencies are handled.
This article is arguing for people to vaccinate and vaccinate their children. I agree with them although some vaccines can cause terrible side effects in some children. For the general public’s safety everyone should get vaccinated. Outbreaks like this cause way more deaths then actual vaccines do. When they must close schools because of outbreaks it affects everyone not just people who decided not to get vaccinated. This article relies a lot on logos by demonstrating stats and facts about the kindergartners in the county. Ethos are demonstrated by the way the writer adds content from her interview with James Hodge. In one-part Hodge says, “We in public health are reacting to a very real threat”, which shows his relation to this public state of emergency.

The message portrayed on the billboard is meant to cause the viewers to question their religious beliefs. The creators used a scaring tactic to make people question what will happen to them in regards of an afterlife. While this billboard may not be seen as alarming in the slightest to those who are incredibly confident about their religious beliefs, people who struggle with their religious identity or have doubts in their beliefs may feel guilt tripped by this billboard.
The advertisement is meant to persuade more people into religion, most likely some form of Christianity in this case (based on the verse mentioned at the bottom.) The question is phrased in a way that causes people to do a spiritual self evaluation, and the choices of images behind the fonts are made to invoke certain emotions behind the two options presented on the billboard. The biblical passage, John 3:36, placed at the bottom right says “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.”
Meaning that those who do not believe God or Jesus are going to supposedly burn in hell. Churches use pathos by using this common scaring tactic, in attempt to convert more people to their religion. However, there is not exactly ethos behind this unless someone personally finds the Bible to be true and believes in God, which at that point the only sort of ethos used would be the biblical verse placed at the bottom. As for logos, there is none since religion is based off of emotion and spiritual beliefs, since there is no real proof as to what happens in the afterlife.

This image is actually a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. It is title Starry Night over the Rhone. The Rhone is actually a very famous and beautiful French river. Many people do not really know of this painting because it is overshadowed by his Starry Night painting. However, if you look closely you’ll see the same patterns in this painting as the world famous Starry Night. The sort of streaky vivid lines in the painting suggest a distorted reality even when looking at the most beautiful of subjects. To me, this puts this painting ahead of its time. It is well known that Vincent Van Gogh was a disturbed man who struggled with his fair share of mental illness. This painting as well as the more famous Starry Night reflect this fact. It shows that in his eyes even the most beautiful of scenes become distorted and perhaps they show a different beauty to him or less beauty. Either way, I interpret these paintings as a cry for help from a man who otherwise did not know how to express himself. They also created an awareness of mental illness before many people even knew that people struggle with different mental illnesses everyday. The vivid lines and dark colors show that he saw something else rather than a plain portrait of one of the most beautiful landscapes in France. This painting gives us more insight into the mind of one of the most famous artists in the history of art itself. This is why I believe that this painting was ahead of its time as well as Starry Night, and why Vincent Van Gogh is still a celebrated and studied artist.

This is an image displays a a simple but powerful statement on both sides of the fence. On one side you can say that the words that we speak can cause harm, damage, and even war. And on the other side, it depicts how our words can be a defense for standing up for what is right, and protect us and defend us. This image really displays a lot of pathos, where you can’t help but have it pour on the strings of emotion, of both good and bad. For logos, simple words that it displays is war, peace, strength, downfall downfall, liberation. It speaks volumes to mind as it takes off in its countless definitions for our minds to interpret. I feel like this image creates a strong argument for both sides and it is only the way that you perceive it and analyze it for yourself as how what side you place yourself to defend. This really reminded me of our last class we were talking about the word Apple, and the multiple ways that a simple word can be perceived and this image reminded me of that andIt also tells me tonight to not just look at things at the surface, I need to always dive deeper and try to be open to see things in a new light.

The image I chose to respond to for this week’s Journal response comes from a web page titled Durango Bill’s debunking and the first statement made on this webpage is “global warming denies claim that global warming is a hoax / fraud /scam. They like, they are will fully ignorant, and they are wrong.” The web page has several images about global warming deniers, but the image I chose to write about is one with three protesters with common global warming denier claims like ” it’s cold so global warming doesn’t exist” by all the signs are misspelled and a news reporter states “all across America, low intelligence records are being broken.” The image portrays the global warming deniers as stupid not only in the way that the signs are misspelled but also their appearance going as far as to give one a pig snout.
I believe the author has a strong bias by being extremely passionate and his dad about climate change and the people who deny its existence. As for any unsupported claims I feel as though the image portrays all global warming deniers as unintelligent and I don’t think that is always the case. There are very intelligent deniers who keep their stance due to specific agendas such as the one we discussed in class about Fox news reporters laughing about the topic of climate change when the owners of Fox News made their money from the fossil fuel industries that drive climate change. Again I disagree with the harsh betrayal of the deniers, but I do agree that deniers are being willfully ignorant at this point with the vast amount of scientific evidence we have to support the fact that climate change exists and humans are causing its acceleration. I feel this image mainly uses Logos to appeal to ones logic as far as the scientific backing to support climate change. It also calls deniers stupid which could cause people not to want listen to the point of the image anyway.

The main time stamp of focus is that we humans are responsible for what we are doing to the earth. building factories that pollute our oceans and shootings that only result in the loss of innocent life. towards the end of the video we see Burd go on and try to explain to Justin Beiber that people dont believe in global warming. This image that I found is from an outdoor advertisement created by Publicist, Singapore for Crisis Relief. It tells the story of a woman holding a child that seems to be hurting from the aftermath of war. The image indicates that someone has posted the events online to get support. Furthermore, people across the world seem to have liked the post in order to show support. By liking a post however, it does nothing for the person or people suffering. What the advertisement is asserting is that people need to be proactive instead of just being behind a computer liking a post. It is calling for people to volunteer and change a life because liking isn’t helping.
The image is strong on pathos. It visually shows a child suffering surrounded by spectators without being helped. The image has an emotional impact; many of these events happen all around the world and have become entertainment for the people and are eventually forgotten. It is also full of logic; the argument that likes don’t help at all and that volunteering can be more powerful. The image also contains ethos based on the depressing tone it contains. Moreover, the advertisement does a good job in presenting a powerful image to get people to volunteer. It also reminded me how cruel social media can be. It exposes peoples suffering to the whole world without getting much help. Instead, they are ignored or are not paid much attention since it is not happening at home.

The image I chose to analyze contains a black background with a lit nicotine cigarette that has formed a smoke cloud in the shape of a human skull. This image is trying to show that cigarettes are killing people. For years cigarettes have been seen as harmful due to the large amounts of nicotine that are in them and how they can lead to diseases such as lung cancer, heart diseases, and COPD to name a few. Lots of people start smoking and cannot stop because of how addicting it can be for them. With every cigarette they smoke they are continuing to damage their bodies. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that “cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year, or about 1 in 5 deaths” (cdc.gov). Cigarettes are not only harmful to the person smoking put also to those around them in the form of second hand smoke, as they are exposed to the same chemicals and can obtain the same type of diseases.
The post has a very dark and gloomy setting to show just how fatal cigarettes can be. The argument that is being made is how detrimental cigarettes are to society. The image lacks bias because of how prominent the problem of cigarettes are and how the data overwhelmingly shows how damaging cigarettes have been. I believe that pathos is used in this post to elect the emotions of fear and hope as nobody wants to die but they can make a change going forward in their life.

Air pollution is a mixture of natural and man-made substances in the air we breathe. It is typically separated into two categories: outdoor air pollution and indoor air pollution. Fine particles produced by the burning of fossil fuels like coal and petroleum used in energy production, Noxious gases like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, chemical vapors, etc., Ground-level ozone, and Tobacco Smoke is outdoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution involves exposures to particulates, carbon oxides, and other pollutants carried by indoor air or dust. Examples Gases (carbon monoxide, radon, etc.), Household products and chemicals. In some instances, outdoor air pollution can make its way indoors by way of open windows, doors, ventilation, etc.
This particular article talks about all of the air pollution and how its affect on the human health. The study report shows that in most states, about half of the premature deaths caused by poor air quality are linked to pollutants that blow in from other states. The data and the facts are really connected with my emotion when I see the California had one of the highest rate of premature death from combustion- related air pollution. Moreover, Nearly all of the premature air pollution deaths in California (98%) were caused by pollution originating within state borders. The overall conclusion of the article is the air quality is bad in many ways, and if we want to continue to improve it we need to understand what the causes are and what the effects are and to target the biggest contributors.

The image above shows an overcrowded fenced area holding families at a Border Patrol Centralized Processing Center taken in Texas. The detainees in this picture appear to be in tight discomfortable spaces and described their conditions to be inadequate. Describing it as “difficult to move in any direction without jostling and being jostled, water provided them was foul, of a dark color, and an ordinary glass would collect a thick sediment…the food, Our ration was in quality a starving one, it being either too foul to be touched or too raw to be digested.” This image uses an emotional appeal to target the audience and uses an emotional approach to inform the conditions of these Border Patrol facilities. We see families and children in this picture, seeing that these are not criminals in these cages that deserve to be locked up but actual children and normal families allows the audience to react in a sympathetic way. The article uses this picture to inform of such mistreatment for immigrants and argues that The conditions at these facilities are unbearable and untolerable for the immigrants being held, and may not result from acts of deliberate malice, making life so unbearable for migrants that they turn back—has made these conditions inevitable. The administration’s harsh approach to both the migrants and their countries of origin has failed in its stated aim. It has not decreased the number of people seeking refuge here, but the more people arrive, the harsher the administration’s response becomes. The administration’s only proposed solution is to legalize the unlawfully draconian treatment it has inflicted on migrants. (Adam Sewer).

The image here displays a criticism on consumer culture. It is a article cover from Issue 21 of Scholastic. The image shows a bar code that morphs into hands reaching up in desperation, reminiscent of a horror scene in a scary movie. On the top of the image, in big bold letters, is the title “Consumer Culture.” On the left side of the image is the statement, “Pushing us to consume.” On the right side of the image is the statement, “Ethical Consumerism.” In the middle of the image is the words, “Wants vs. Needs.” The image is obviously playing emotions of fear and shock through reminiscing to classic horror films. It evokes an emotion of fear and makes the viewer feel trapped. The fact that these hands come from a bar code show the connection that we are being tortured by our own spending habits. This image is very strong in evoking these emotions and creates a compelling argument without even having to say much in text. Speaking of the text, the phrases employed amplify the strength of the image immensely. By using strong words such as “Wants vs. Need” the image is able to retain a certain straightforward conviction. Theses words are evocative as they remind the viewer of the struggles in self control. It leaves the viewer naked in a sense. It makes the viewer question their own habits and how they’ve fallen victim to the consumer culture system. It makes them question if their hands are also among those in the bar code.

In this article, it highlights the dangers of women empowerment, or feminism, and how it has been affecting our society and this day & age. It includes both positive and negative aspects, but more on the negative side. There was more of a negative side, despite it still being written by a female. She highlights the aspects of how feminism in general shaped how she even grew up. This includes people giving her things and materials that really empowered and gave off a sexual appeal to the female body. She emphasized the concept of feminism sort of being more of a dream that multiple women had to overpower men more, and not be equals. This is because these radical women doing this have felt what it’s like being at the bottom of the run for a long time. Now they want to be at the top.
I think this article relates to the class because we have been dealing with the concept of equality lately. This is honestly a great topic that every human being should have the privilege of covering. This topic is a little bit backwards in what it is trying to point out. It goes more and steps over the line a little bit, saying that women are now more twisting themselves to the point of self destruction. By this I mean that they are contorting themselves in a way that is causing them to fully live up to the expectation of what society is. Women are putting on more sexual appeal than back then and it’s becoming more and more popular.
