https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2020/03/26/china-has-been-shipping-wuhan-coronavirus-tests-to-europeand-they-dont-work-n2565786
The article is talking about how China started shipping Coronavirus tests to Europe, with most of them not working making them useless. About 80% of the tests China sent to Europe, to Italy and Spain, Czech Republic, were not working and are mainly faulty and the tests being done, the equipment can only correctly identify about 30% of the people that do carry the virus in their systems. Causes of spread, China’s government did not respond in time causing over 5 million possibly infected people to spread the virus outside of the country. Once it became widespread, and since most of the medical equipment in the world is now produced in China, the world has to rely on China to make more equipment so that it can be used. Effect, it hasn’t been working, China has either not been sending equipment or sending faulty equipment making spread happen quicker and tests take much longer to show. Now that everyone has to rely on China, especially in times of disaster, they are not producing reliable equipment that medical workers need to help treat and test patients for the disease. Due to over reliance on China, these hard times are hitting harder than it would normally have to be.

This article from the NY Times discusses a sailor who was on the aircraft carrier called “Theodore Roosevelt” that died from COVID-19. It also discusses the sad reality of Captain Brett E. Crozier being denied further help from top Navy officials. He begged and pleaded for help to evacuate the ship to prevent the further spread of the virus, but top officials ignored his plea. This caused the virus to spread out of control, as they had no further help or resources. Top officials were more concerned of keeping the ship there in case of war (so they would be ready). Because of this, many crew members from the Roosevelt have the virus, and one of them has already died. The name of the crew member is being withheld for 24 hours after the family has been informed of the unfortunate death.
This article shows cause and effect perfectly. Top Navy officials denied Captain Brett E. Crozier’s plea for help in evacuating and controlling the spread of COVID-19 among crew members. Because of this, the virus further spread between crew members and one of the crew members has already died. The denial of this plea for help resulted in the death of an individual, and the infection of many others. The further spread of the infection (if not also the death of the crew member) could have been easily prevented, if Navy officials had simply sent help to the Roosevelt, and assisted in evacuating the ship and quarantining crew members.

In class we talked about Ed Gein, he was a murder that was considered a monster. He has multiple psychological disabilities that were haunting him. He was traumatized by his mother passing away and did not know how to communicate well with others. But, that is not all that can make a monster. A monster may come in many forms, a monster can have different appearances that may be deceiving to many individuals. A monster can be intellectual which may make them even more of a monster because they know what they are doing with the knowledge that they contain. For instance, there is an individual who is a monster; he was intellectual and deceiving with his appearances and the way he would communicate with individuals; this person is known as Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy was a person with a lot of knowledge and deceiving to many female individuals who thought he was a gentleman. He would communicate with women at parties or from different college facilities that did not attend to his college. Often times, these women were deceived and murdered because of his way of communicating with the women. Actions can make a monster, his actions were to seduce or make a woman intrigued by his ways. When he finally had the women individually vulnerable, he would then murder these innocent ladies. Some individuals were murdered in a brutal way; some were hammered to the head, suffocated to death, and he even hacked a woman’s head off. When he appeared to court, he knew his rights and knew how to defend himself without a lawyer. He was an intellectual male who studied law, which made his court trial prolong longer than many would have thought. However, he was a delusional individual who also suffered from psychological problems. He never thought he did anything wrong, which is similar to Ed Gein; the two individuals were not psychologically stable. Yet, these two individuals murdered innocent woman that was harmless and still thought they were not a menace to society. In addition, both of these individuals had a movie made after themselves and continued to cause horror upon innocents, even when they were no longer a threat to the public. Their stories contain a mystery as to why they made the decisions that they did; which causes terror to people because they do not understand these individuals completely; these factors are what makes a monster and what makes the two individuals alike.

I chose this article because of the class discussion. We have begun to talk about causality, and the different forms of it. We also discussed serial killers like Ed Gein, and other people who were monsters in history. These monsters have been the inspiration for many movies and books around the world. The term causality discusses why monsters do what they do and what were the reasons behind their monstrosity.
I have decided to write my research essay on Doctor Josef Mengele, who was a Nazi doctor working in the extermination camp Auschwitz Birkenau during World War II. This article discusses why the Nazis were obsessed with twins, and why doctor Mengele was asked to research specifically on twin children.
The Nazis created a medical experimentation program at Auschwitz, which was aimed at twins to be able to use one twin as the control and perform horrible experiments on the other. They would be injected with diseases, blood transfusions, and would even receive amputations. When they died, their bodies would be studied together. Twins were the perfect research subjects because they shared the exact same genetics, so differences would be behavioral and not genetic. To study twins would be to study the effects of nature and nurture.
Mengele abandoned medical ethics and performed all these experiments against protocol. He gained a reputation as the “Angel of Death”.
Though twins are still valuable to scientists performing genetic experiments today, there is much debate on whether scientists should do that again, considering the treacherous history of the experiments.

I decided to write about fast foods and the causes and effects of it. It tastes delicious but it isn’t good for the body. We all love some easy food to eat and not having to cook when we get home from a long day at work. But that isn’t the smartest thing we can be doing. Eating too much over a long period of time can lead to issues such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and unwanted weight gain. Since eating a lot of trans fats can cause certain heart health problems, the FDA (Federal Food and Drug Administration) has required that artificial trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils be removed from foods sold at restaurants by 2020. Most of the time people eat it because its easy, some because is how they cope on there day to day life issues and having the food satisfied some feelings. It’s like eating you feeling so I’ve heard. Fast food leads to many causes, it can be how we grew up, maybe that’s all the person ate growing up. Sometimes we eat to avoid problems or issues we are having. Best practices are not to eat because your wanting to fill a void, do other things like go for a walk or read a book. Lastly if you do eat out, make them smaller portion of meals and don’t over fill your self with the junk. All that food is only going to lead to health issues and possibly death. Its all about moderation.

My favorite horror movie of all time is Halloween aka Micheal Myers. growing up as a kid all my dad would play non stop Micheal Myers around Halloween time and it made me terrified of him but fascinated at the same time. no matter how scared I was of him I still would sit and watch them all day long. The main reason why i was so scared of Micheal was because he never dies. funny story I used to be so scared that when i would lay down to go to bed I would hear my heart rate on my pillow and i used to think that it was Micheal Myers foot steps lol. The other reason why I was fascinated by him was because he wanted to kill all of his family and I wanted to know why. he will not stop until they are dead and as I was younger I never knew why but of course now I know why. another thing that scared me about Micheal was that he never shows his face throughout all of the movies, he also never talks.all he does is just breathe loudly through his mask. another fascinating thing about Micheal is that he always chooses a knife for his weapon . I came across this article and it reminded me of our topic in class and I thought it would be perfect for this post.

In the article The Ted Bunny Effect it goes over the various faces that were trying to figure out who he was. After the killings people were trying to figure out why he did it and how he was able to adapt so well to different interviews. Although they are unsure of the cause of the killings the effects of it were horrifying because they had never seen a killer like this before espically one who doesn’t appear to be a killer. In addition This helped build a drive in mental heath when it came to understanding why serial killers do the things they do as well as helping to find others. During this time period there were various serial killers who never appear to be a monster but the actions and minds were very monstrous. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/shadow-boxing/201508/the-bundy-effect

This article talks about the growing effects the country will have with food production and businesses selling their food to companies all during the Corona virus pandemic. Researchers are stating that the nation will see a loss in food businesses because of all the closures. Some farming businesses are finding it hard to hire out of the country workers because they are unable to get visas or work permits as embassys and federal offices are closed. So many of their crops and trees aren’t getting the care they need that these workers provide which will result in a loss of produce. The virus is causing an overall loss of value and business and may cause many consumers the inability to afford these high valued products that will become low in production.

This scholarly article discusses the impact of pornography on serial killers. With multiple serial killers claiming pornography to be prominent cause for their violent behavior, including Ted Bundy, the author uses serial killer interviews, professional opinions, scientific data, and indepth research to determine if there truly is a correlation. The argument is centered on the basis that at a young age, mixed with other factors, pornography plays a large part in the sexually obsessed mindstate many serial killers find themselves in. They begin by viewing “regular” sexual intercourse, but then become obsessed in pushing the limits as they view more “obscene” material; looking for a new dose of dopamine by pushing the limits of what they watch. This can lead to individuals fantasizing about sexual encounters that employ violence and cruelty to reach gratification. Ultimately, these fantasies have the potential to become reality if other factors, such as early abuse, accommodate that individual’s turn into an actual serial killer. Admitted in the article, there is no conclusive nor scientific proof that pornography is actually linked to the development of serial killers. It’s too hard to study humans and find proof of causation when there’s just so many factors as to why a person behaves the way they do. However, according to many respected law enforcement agents, a large majority of violent criminals tend to have an unhealthy obsession with sex; and thus pornography. Particularly obscene material, illegal material of sexual nature, are continuously found among violent offenders. The author concludes in favor of speculation that pornography has some involvement in the development of violent behavior, particularly among serial killers. According to the author, for a long time there was no scientific evidence that smoking tobacco causes cancer and yet here we are now. Whatever the case may be, researching potential causality between pornography and violent behavior has proven fascinating nonetheless.

The article I read that was published by the LA times on April 10, 2020 discusses the long term affects of the corona virus. It begins by discussing how the disease attacks the body with an emphasis on the lungs. Physicians believe for even those who are fully cleared of the virus, some of the effects of the infection still linger. Doctors in China recently ran a blood test on 34 of their patients recovering from COVID-19 and found that many of their biological measures did not return to normal. It then touches on how with the influx of patients being treated for the virus makes it hard to collect data on the over 370,000 people who have recovered from it. Doctors main concerns are as said by Dr. Krumholtz, a cardiologist at Yale University, “COVID-19 is not just a respiratory disorder, as it can affect the heart, liver, kidneys, brain, the endocrine system and the blood system”. The article ends by discussing how this disease is like nothing that has been seen before and although health care professionals do not have the guide and testing on how to attack it like other infections, they are working as diligently as they can for the betterment of the population and its long term health.
I chose this article because it not only discusses a current event but also discusses the cause and effects that the disease can have going forward. Although the focus is on the long term biological effects of the virus, it also made me think about the social effects it will have moving forward such as continued social distancing, mask wearing, and general fear and anxiety for people to leave their houses. Overall, the article was very informative for me as we shift in to this new era in society.

Summary:
In Monday’s class we discussed Ed Gein. The people of Plainfield saw Ed Gein as a nice, but odd man is the way he was described until the night the truth was unleashed into the world. Ed Gein grew up in a home ran by an alcoholic father and a domineering mother figure. She lectured her sons about the word bible and it’s teaching on a heavy basis. Ed Gein learned from his mother women are the root of all evil and they only do evil. After Ed’s father died in 1940 , and then, his brother passed due to a fatal fire “accident.” Now just Ed and his mother remained to run the household. Ed remained faithful to his mother by taking care of her and devouring his life to her until she passed away. Ed’s mother was the only thing keeping him tethered to reality at all. Once she died he became even more odd and started to act deranged. Finally, his truth was discovered of the murder of Bernice Borden. Borden was brutally murdered by Ed and as the police ventured in further into his horrific home they discovered even more of the unimaginable. His nursery rocked the little town of Plainfield and inspired Hollywood to write horror films based of his life.
Not only did Ed had a rough upbringing but he suffered from mental illness, specifically Psychosis .
Response: Ed Gein’s life represents sufficient cause which is a condition that always produces the effect in question, “Why did Ed commit these unethical and terrifying crimes?” His life also represents
reciprocal cause , which a reciprocal situation cause leads to an effect that, in turn, strengthens the initial cause.Ed’s childhood of an alcoholic father and dominant mother and isolated child affirms more of the reasons for his behavior and crimes.

I chose my article this week to be about horror movies that are based on true stories! A lot of people find the genre of horror movies to be very exciting, thrilling, and spine chilling. And though some stories used for the plot out of movies were very popular and successful in the box office, does anyone wonder if those real stories are still affecting the people who went through those terrible things? for example, the family of the Conjuring still experiences creepy paranormal activity to this day! Other places who had experienced murder, curses, and other terrible things. All of these unfortunate events were the perfect inspiration for the horror movies people watched for the thrill of it! Other movies inspired were Orphan, Hills Have Eyes, Leatherface, The Exorcist, and so many movies that scared people yet reeled them in time and time again! This article was just as intriguing as much as it was terrifying to read. The movies are already so scary to watch that reading the backstory to what inspired these movies it’s quite spine chilling! i’ve never been a huge fan of horror movies because they give me nightmares specially when they’re based on true stories. But overall the movies are very intriguing and thrilling!

An article written by Maggie Koerth published February 28th, 2020 titled “Quarantines Won’t Save Us From Coronavirus” details the effectiveness of quarantine and further explains the difference between quarantine and isolation as well as the major differences between the two. Koerth asks medical professionals expert opinions on the effect of the quarantine on the spread of this respiratory disease. The author also talks about the process of quarantine as used in the past in situations such as the plague and SARS. This article seems to aim for opening people’s eyes to our process and aims at evaluating the faults. The article argues the effectiveness of quarantining large groups and gives examples of reasons we have been using it while arguing its actual impact on the situations.
This article is very effective in the way they provide quotes from medical professionals on the front lines, it takes a stance without infringing judgment as to bring attention to the situation without giving the journalists opinion. The article uses causality to show the effects of what happened in other quarantine situations. It is mentioned as an effect of people being locked in their apartments during the SARS outbreak that those who had not been locked up yet started to flee taking the virus with them. Due to the article, I now realize we should be aiming more for isolation as opposed to quarantine but, as many people just feel this is a way for other people to control them and are not abiding by the rules I believe the most helpful thing to do would be to educate one another on what is going on and why we should isolating.

The article that I chose to write about for this week’s Journal response is an article called Fear and Now: How Horror Movies Reflect Societal Unease. The author of this article stated his writing of this article was inspired by his watching of a new horror movie (at the time of his writing the articled) called Hereditary and he wanted to analyze why this movie was so scary and successful. He believes that its success is due to it playing on societal issues such as familial miscommunication. He also goes on to say that horror movies throughout history would commonly play off of societal unease leading to their success. horror movies would be at their Peak when the world would be having the worst things going on and it’s worse moments. An example of this that the author provides in his article is how in Germany the making of Nosferatu, the first vampire movie, the heroine has to spend the night with the creature to save her town and this event in the movie was likened to have Germany had to yield power to the powers who were victorious in World War 1. Another example that is provided in the article is how in the 70s in the the rising knowledge of serial killers, slasher films became more popular because such horrific acts were previously mostly unknown to the public and it both scared and fascinated people.
This article correlates to what we were learning in class because of the monster culture theses of Cohen’s. His theses state that monsters are born from a specific time and place and reflect the society from which they came from. This article makes similar connections between horror movies and Society or time periods they come from. Whether it’s monsters or horror movies they play off the fears and anxieties of the people from when they were created and that’s what makes them successfully scare people and in turn makes them fascinating or popular.

The first case of novel coronavirus was reported in Wuhan, China, in late December. Now, it has spread all over the world. Almost about 2.5 million cases, and 170 thousand Deaths cases have been reported from all over the world(Worldometer.info). However, there have been millions of cases that weren’t reported by not shown on data by lack of testing. Nowadays, everyone was familiar with how coronavirus has a short time effect globally. However, I choose an article that talks about how Coronavirus Will Change the World Permanently, and its long term effect. A global, novel virus that keeps us contained in our homes maybe for months, years? Some changes these experts expect to see in the coming months or years might feel unfamiliar or unsettling: Will nations stay closed? Had Will touch become taboo? What will become of restaurants? But crisis moments also present an opportunity: more sophisticated and flexible use of technology, less polarization, a revived appreciation for the outdoors and life’s other simple pleasures. No one knows exactly what will come. However, society, government, healthcare, the economy, our lifestyles and more will change.

The article I chose above discusses how Governor Newsom (Gov of California) plans to respond to the publics questions regarding whether or not the stay-at-home order will extend through May. The number of cases have begun to slowly decline, and it is believed that this can be partially due to the stay-at-home order, however many Californians are growing impatient and would like to return to work as the economy is going to crash. A group of officials from San Luis Obispo requested to permit some businesses to reopen and small gatherings to take place. With the publics health as his number one priority, governor Newsom explained that the virus knows no jurisdiction, knows no boundaries; “It’s critical to the collective well-being of all Californians to have a statewide, health-based strategy to return to some sense of normalcy” (Gavin Newsom).
I chose an article with an update on COVID-19 to ensure I stay informed as I too, am curious about when the stay-at-home order will lift. I have seen a lot of people from all over the country, not just California, protesting the stay-at-home-order on social media, and many people opposing the social distancing order. I wanted to know what Newsom had to say in response to the selfish people protesting.

For this journal response I will be responding to an article from mayo clinic about the Atkins Diet. The reason why I chose this article is, because not only do I need to research it for my health class, this article also overviews cause and effect perfectly. The cause can be for someone who is looking for a new diet in order to lose weight possibly and find a sustainable way of losing weight. The effect of trying out this diet is also shown in the article. To summarize this article, first you have to explain what the Atkins Diet is, and within this article it states that the Atkins diet is a diet that restricts carbs. This diet is rich in fats and proteins as well as fiber too. This diet also has trade offs when trying to partake in it the effect of doing this diet in the beginning people can experience headaches, dizziness, weakness, fatigue and constipation. This diet does help with weight loss, help improve blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease. How this pertains to what we are learning in class is through cause and effect the the cause to want to do this diet is for people who want to lose weight, maintain the weight they have lost, find a diet that is sustainable so they can fit into their life for life, and the effect is what comes from doing this diet. Overall this article argues the benefits of the Atkins Diet, and why it can be beneficial to someone’s health

The effects that will come through this: people will have money to pay for their utilities, rent, food etc., many other people will join the cause and maybe donate their money to help others. Lastly this will help people overall with confidence that there is people who are willing to help them no matter what.

The article that I selected is the big news, shocking news is Trump announcing that he will sign executive order to suspend immigration to the US.
This new front page news is just another one of dozens of announcements, decisions, that our President has been made. What I was used to was our president being Proactive, and having an impact on our world more by choice. As of lately since the Covid 19 worldwide pandemic has created a new world for everyone. Even our President is trying to do his best to make decisions, and to lead our country to the best of his ability. President Trump, or any leader that would take the office has no choice but to be on the defense, or more of a reactive leadership.
The Cause is the Covid 19, and the spreading of the Virus. The effect is first humans becoming sick and dying. The effect is also the reaction that all governments are having to take to prevent the future spread. I would have never thought that we would ever have a Quarantine/ Social Distancing. Restaurants divining, public places, events, etc, all closed to public. We are living in a world that we could not have imagined.
Without the Covid 19 Virus there would be no sickness or death from the virus. Without the fear of death and sickness, for what we believe especially for at risk, for elderly and at risk people, we would not have to quarantine, social distance. If we did not have the quarantine effects such as business, restaurants, public events, even church, we would not be headed to a crisis of financial and economical uncertainty.
This can come full circle with the thought that by humans taking these actions, the effect, they are preventing or at least slowing the cycle and continuation of the cause.

The pandemic lock downs around the world are choking the oil demand, throwing the oil industry off. The oil industry was already over supplied before the global pandemic. The cause of this is the global lockdown, while the effect of this is the unwanted crude is filling up storage infrastructure as the pandemic is killing off the global demand. The effect is the sign of untended oil markets that are creating deep financial jeopardy for the industry. There is not enough places to store all of the extra oil around the world as many of us are staying home.
