What monster or category of monster are you thinking about researching for your Causal Analysis?
Understanding Causal Relationships
Causality: the relationship of cause and effect
You should identify the types of causal relationships on your charts (you might use different types of arrows, different colors, or simply labels to show what kind of cause is being mapped).
- Necessary Cause: any factor that must be in place for something to occur.
- Sufficient Cause: is a condition that always produces the effect in question.
- Precipitating Cause: the proverbial straw that breaks a camel’s back.
- Proximate Cause: nearby and often easy to spot.
- Remote Cause: may act at some distance from an event but be closely tied to it.
- Reciprocal Cause: you have a reciprocal situation when a cause leads to an effect that, in turn, strengthens the cause.
- Contributing Factors: add to the causes to bring about the effect.
Why is society so fascinated with serial killers?
Quick Write 2
Research or come up with two examples of causal relationships. Explain how the relationship occurs.
Example: Sufficient Cause. Pulling a trigger will always fire the gun.

1. Emphasizing Causes
Cause asks:
- Why did X happen?
- Why does X happen?
- Why will X happen?
Example: Why did Ed Gein kill those women?
- Cause 1 – ____________________________
- Cause 2 – ____________________________
- Cause 3 – ____________________________
Produced:
- Event – ______________________________
2. Emphasizing Effects
Effect asks:
- What did X produce?
- What does X produce?
- What will X produce?
Quick Write 3
What impact did Ed Gein have in pop culture?

Quickwrite 1: I would lie to research the Loch Ness monster for my causal analysis essay.
Quickwrite 2: 1)A parent and child argue due to the child’s phone usage. The child drops the phone, claiming they were not on it. The child wanting to walk away grabs their phone from the table where it had fallen while the frustrated parent starts to throw their flip flop. Due to the child bending over to grab the phone, the flip flop misses the child ricochets off the tv hitting the parent’s arm. The parent being hit in the arm could have all been possibly been avoided by not arguing with the parent, this way they could have avoiding having dropped their phone, possibly eliminating the parents want to hit their child. 2) The weather forecast called for cold and stormy weather. A woman who had heard the forecast decided not to listen because she preferred to have sunny weather, leaving her raincoat and umbrella at home. The woman proceeds to dress for her interview, gets in the car and drives to the office. As she gets there, she notices very little parking and parks far away. From the walk to the building she becomes drenched in water from the storm, having to meet her interviewer in a rain-soaked outfit. If the woman had adjusted her outfit for the weather she may have stayed dry as opposed to possibly losing out on a job opportunity due to unprofessional-looking attire.
Quickwrite 3: Ed Gein may have changed the way people felt because he got caught having behavior outside the social norm that frightened and intrigued people. Possibly due to the surprise, people felt a subset of the population saw his actions as something to capitalize on and profit off people’s intrigue. Due to the books, movies, and media coverage people’s ideas of what Geins actions were may have become distorted.

Quick write 1: what monster or category of monster are you thinking about researching for your causal analysis?
I think I am going to focus on serial killers for my causal analysis, solely because there is extensive background on them that is backed by credible sources.
Quick write 2: research or come up with two examples of causal relationships. Explain how the causal relationship occurs.
I believe the reciprocal cause for ed gien is that when he began digging up graves and mutilating the bodies to manufacture his fantisies increased his desore for fresh skin which caused him to begin killing people to satisfy his desires
The precipitating cause would be the death of his mother, the control she held over him in life was now unleashed when she passed. With no restraints he was subject to the depth and darkness of his mind.
Quick write 3: the effect gien had in pop culture was the heinous acts he committed on human corpses and the manner in his murders
In the event of eds mother dieing it allowed for him to divulge in his malicious fantisies
In doing so it produced the acts of serial grave robbing, and murder which allowed for the slasher movies to thrive causing the entertainment industry to profit off of his monstrous acts.
With the entertainment industry constantly remaking movies based off of the ed gien murders, it causes for a horror lust to consume society, unintentionally keeping the monster alive until the next fascination occurs.
Ed Gien> free to fulfill his fantasy after death of mother> entertainment industry copies fantasys and makes billions> the memory and fear of the monster will live on forever.

The monster I think I’m write about is Pedro Lopez the monster of the Andes a Colombian serial killer. Pedro was convicted of killing over 400 girls. Born on October 8, 1948 in Santa Isabel, Colombia Pedro Alonzo Lopez endured an early life of homeless, violence and sexual abuse. He embarked in a killing spree; his main targeted was young girls from his home country.
Quick write #2
For Pedro Lopez I think
1. Is Precipitating Cause because of his childhood being raped and abused, led him to a mental or physical disorder. Precipitating cause means the factor sometimes a traumatic or stressful experience, leads to mental issues.
2. Sufficient cause is also good casual relationships because major of individuals who are sexual abuse multiple times and homeless, will lead to a killer trying to take revenge to others.
