Monster Evaluations
Today we need to understand what an evaluation is.
Evaluation: Monster Prompt
An evaluation is simply a review. We review lots of things regularly, movies, books, restaurants, and even professors.
IGN Dracula Untold Review
This is a great example of a movie review. It doesn’t spoil the movie but it does give us enough to understand what they think about it. They tell us what was good and what was bad. They give us their perspective and teach us something about it. If you do something like this you will get a great job.
Gathering Data
You will need to decide on the monster you want to evaluate, and investigate the subject thoroughly. You will need to find your primary sources and scholarly sources.
For Example: Dracula or Vampires
Primary Sources:
- Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula (1898) – Book
- Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – Film
Scholarly Sources:
Search the Crafton library database for your monster or category of monster. Also, Google Scholar is a great search engine for scholarly stuff. Possible search terms:
- Dracula
- Dracula critical analysis
- Dracula vampire
Evaluation Notes
Writing an Evaluation: It is one thing to offer an opinion, yet it is an entirely different matter to back up a claim with reasons and evidence. Only when you do will readers take you seriously.
Explain your mission: Just what do you intend to evaluate and for whom? Are you writing for experts, a general audience, or novices? How much explaining do you need to do so that you audience follows you without getting annoyed with to much information.
Establish and defend criteria: Criteria are the standards by which objects are measured.
Successful presidents leave office with the country in better shape than when they entered.
When readers are likely to share your criteria, you need to explain little about them. When readers disagree or object, be prepared to defend your principles.
Remember: Monster Theory (Seven Theses) is a great starting point for establishing criteria.
Offer convincing evidence: Evidence makes the connection between an opinion and the criteria for evaluation that supports it. Supply data to show that a product you judged faulty didn’t meet those minimal standards.
Offer worthwhile advice: Some evaluations are just for fun. Done right, most evaluations and reviews provide usable information, beneficial criticism or even ranked choices.
We evaluate everything from pizza, restaurants, movies, and even professors. Commentary and criticism of all sorts just happen. Doing them well is another matter.

- Does she address any differences between the book and movie?
- What is her grade or judgment of the movie?

I am thinking about writing about Al Pacino’s character in the movie “Devil’s Advocate.” He plays like the devil in this movie which can make his character a great prospect to be a monster in many different aspects. Another prospect would be Pearl Fernandez because she was a manipulative and abusive individual. Lastly, I would think Hitler would be a great fit person to consider for the monster theory.
Quickwrite 2
I would say that her mission is to clarify what the movie is about and who are the main characters. However, she was not specific as to who the audience she is speaking to. But, she clarifies her mission well by giving background about the movie, what is the movie about, and what is the situation for the characters. She did not address a great difference; she just states,” the director does a tight job.” Which is why I would think there was not a great difference. Yet, the book shows why characters have psychological problems and the movie shows how they have those problems; her judgment of the movie was good, but the book gives more detail than the movie.
Quickwrite 3
There was a review about a professor for psychology that was not done well because they did not give research as to what makes a good professor. The individual who gave the evaluation just gave their perspective about the professor. They do not say what could have been better for the professor to do in the class, how it improved the students psychologically and did not give examples of the professor’s interaction.

Quick write #1: The monsters I’m thinking of writing about are either La Llorona or Chupacabra. I don’t know much about La Llorona, I’ve only seen one movie about her. She is a monster that really peaks my interest, so I will probably write about her. I don’t know a lot about the Chupacabra either, so if I change my mind about La Llorona, I will write about that instead.
Quick write #2:
* Schwarzbaum acknowledges that her mission is to convince readers that the movie is just as good as the book. Her audience is people who have read the book and or moviegoers who have not seen the movie yet.
* The criteria she establishes for it to succeed is the description of the powerful young heroine of the movie, Katniss Everdeen. Furthermore, she vividly describes and applauds director Gary Ross’ wonderful job in establishing the futuristic, yet 1980’s inspired vibe of the movie. Furthermore, she argues that if you don’t think the death-by-death progression of the movie matches the insane tension in the book, that it is most likely just due to how they had to adapt the entire book into a movie. More simply put, she thinks the movie did an excellent job of capturing the most important parts of the book and that it included as much as it could, considering it was only one movie.
* She addresses the differences between the book and the movie when she describes the differences between Peeta’s character. In the book, Peeta is not just a “nice guy”, he has more fierceness to him. He is more of a bad ass, not simply the boy next door. However, in the movie, he is simply portrayed as a nice guy that Katniss is often rude to for no apparent reason. In addition, she points out how absent Gale is in the movie, which happens to be Katniss’ soulmate and fellow hunter. She claims this absence could potentially cause viewers to miss the depth and different angles of the love triangle between Katniss, Gale, and Peeta.
* Her grade of the movie is an A.
Quick write #3: The reviews I will be evaluating are from a yelp page for the restaurant Red Chilli. The first evaluation is: “We have been eating at Red Chilli for over 5 years and have usually had good experiences. Not today. My wife asked if she could have a spring roll instead of the soup and the server was rude in his response. I asked for the soup, but never received it”. This is a bad evaluation because it doesn’t give us enough detail. It doesn’t say what the server said that was rude, so we as readers cannot determine (or ever know) if it really was a rude response or if the reviewer was just overreacting and took it the wrong way. Evaluations need to be thorough so the reader has a chance to form his own opinion from the review. The second evaluation is “Tried Red Chilli for delivery and it was absolutely delicious! We ordered chicken chow mein, orange chicken, Kung pao chicken, and white rice. I would have to say this is the tastiest Szechuan food I’ve ever had!! The orange chicken and Kung pao had an authentic flavor. Delivery was 20 minutes early as well! I promise they do not disappoint!!”. This is a good evaluation because it goes into detail about what ordered, how they ordered it, how the flavor of the food was, and how fast the delivery was. This gives people enough information to decide what they should eat based on this person’s recommendation, and what method they should use to get the food.

Review: the hunger games review
I think she covers the audience well because she describes the plot and characters, if you hold interest in the book and those who play the roles of the characters you will automatically become intrigued to watch the movie and place an evaluation yourself. I believe the criteria she provides for the success of her review it to tell the audience the plot of the movie before she names the cast, the way she describes the story is worded in such a way you know this thriller will be for you. Although the movies always differ from the books she allows those who have previously read the book to get the hind sight of the details that could drive a person mad, perfection of characters was not met so she allows for no surprise to hinder the viewers experience. In the end her final judgment of the movie was an A grade which is fantastic, and with that being so I have personally seen the movie and can agree with her judgment.

Find an evaluation of a restaurant or professor that you think is well done and one that is done badly. What makes it good? What makes the evaluation bad?
Using rate my professor I clicked the first teacher I seen, Collene Mahony-Hinds she is a physical ed teacher at Crafton hills college and going through her list of reviews she has yet to receive a negative review. Every student that left a review gave her an awesome rating and spoke enthusiastically about her and her methods of teaching. With this being said this makes her review a good one because she will be more desirable to the next class attending her curriculum.
Char West, a restaurant in santa Barbra that advertises fish n chips as a staple dish made there, located off the coast you would expect the restaurant to offer fresh fish. Sadly on reviewer stated this was not the case, defrosted, soggy and grey they were served their fish completely unsatisfied with the pricing as well. $15 dollars for a crappy meal. This restaurant was rated a 2.5 star rating and many of the reviews state the same issue, horrible servers, fast paced atmosphere where there is no time for relaxation and horrible product. This review was done well to let others know that you should not waste your time eating at this establishment unless you absolutely have to. What makes the evaluation bad is the fact that there is a lot of negative feedback in each review given and it sways people to dine else where.

-The author acknowledges at the end that her mission is to depict how thrilling the movie is and how it’s a must watch if you’ve read the book. She understands that her audience is adolescences and adults.
– She establishes the criteria of the movie by basing it of the book and explaining how they connect.
-The differences she discusses between the book and the movie is the portrayal of the setting, citizens of the town, and the character Peeta.
– She claims that the movie is a good watch and is quite entertaining but lacks the subtle entities that makes the novel so good.

Good Review of Alfredo’s Pizza & Pasta: “I celebrated my birthday earlier this evening in this great restaurant. Well we had a sensational evening and the place was surely one of the reasons for this fruitful event. The waiters participated in a very nice style, the food was extremely good and my guests were so thrilled. We shall absolutely come back again for more events. Thank you very much”
I thought that this was a good evaluation because it painted a full picture and was inciteful as it touched on all the aspects that a person would want to know about when selecting a place to eat. The best part about it, is that it seems very authentic and credible.
Bad Review of Target: “Outrageous prices smh how do people afford to shop at such an overpriced store seriously?? Walmart is wayyyyy better target needs to go out of business.”
I find this review to be bad as it does not provide judgement on any of the aspects of the store that people would inquire about. The argument that is being made is more of a personal opinion and neglects to touch on other more concrete reasons why the store might not be a good place to shop.

I believe Schwarzbaum wants to try clarifying the movie’s central story and how it portrays it compared to the books, having her audience be casual readers of her movie review. She establishes her criteria of the movie to be an “unfliching translation of Collins’ vision” which she says the movie did. She says the movie told the book’s story well, just not in as much detail.
Overall she gave the movie a good rating, just that it didn’t give as much detail on the story.

One bad review I found for a professor was for my calculus 1 professor where the person states: “HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Wasted money on a textbook we did not even use. His lecture and homework assignments do not correspond with each other. He isnt clear on lectures and is very confusing. He goes way too fast. Nothing made sense in this course and many people failed in my class.” the reason why I consider this bad is because they don’t describe how everything was like, they gave statements but didn’t elaborate how the homework and lectures don’t correspond, do they give questions that are just two different topics? are they very challenging on the homework but extremely simple in lecture? Elaborating on points like this would make it a better review. For a good review, I don’t know if this link will work but shorturl.at/gnBXZ . The reason why I say this review was good, they described the reasons why they liked the place with giving reasons why someone would want to go to this place at the end.

Lisa Schwarzbaum does not acknowledge why she writes the article or who her audience is. From the very first sentence, the author has jumped straight into talking about the book and movie. The author does not specifically introduce the topic; however, she mentions what she is referring to several times throughout the article. She appeals to people’s curiosity by staring which a shocking sentence about young people being killed. She addresses one difference the audience of the book and movie had trouble with an actor playing a leading role who did not seemingly meet audiences’ expectations. The author seems to have enjoyed the movie, however, took very stern stances against some of the characters, the actions, and the movie premise that may imply she felt negatively towards the movie.

Rate my professor is a website that students can post comments about professors they have taken to help other students decide on which professors to take or avoid. With the animinity of the internet, sometimes people take the liberty of being extreme in opinion, whether that opinion is negative or positive. Looking at reviews for my Geography professor, many of the reviews said things like, “awesome teacher.” While such an opinion could be useful if you were thinking about taking a professor but not certain it is not something I would use to base my decision off. The author who said the professor was awesome did not let me know about the professor’s teaching style, grading, attendance, or even their grade. Without this information, I do not know that the kind of awesome this professor is will be awesome by my personal standards. Well written review with proper capitalization and punctuation appears to be more trustworthy. The most helpful review was one that let me know, textbooks are required, the professor offers extra credit, the grading criteria are clear, and that the person posting can list previous classes taken with the professor giving some idea the author of the rate is credible.

Fans of the book and new moviegoers seem to be the target audience and comparing the movie to the book and how it might draw different conclusions is what seems to be her mission.
to make the charecter Josh more effective the way he is in the book .

A good review will describe why the food was good and what your experience was like such as how you were treated and then why they should go .
A bad review does not provide the basic information or proper grammar and may be an assumption.

She isn’t your typical monster as she looks and speaks nothing like a monster yet her upbringing and actions show different. Another monster I’m also interested in is Robert de niro’s character in the movie Casino which is set when the mafia was controlling the hotels in Las Vegas. However mafia members may deceive the look but are known for horrible crimes they commit and is something that I’d like to dive more into.

The Hunger games review written by Lisa Schwarzbaum is a well written review yet it fails in certain parts that would help to establish a clearer thought. When reading it at first it was difficult to pinpoint if she was writing a review or a comparison of the book. Although, her audience seems to be for people just getting into Hunger games which she gives good descriptions of the movie to immerse you in the action. Yet she gives no sort of credibility to back what she is saying because anyone can speak on a movie. After making the movie appear that it is directed and told well at the end she leaves you on a cliff hanger saying “The movie shows how, but the book shows why”.

One thing that stuck out when I read the good review was that the reviewer established credibility while talking about the product. The guy was saying that he was a vertarn so when he talks about the survival kit it makes it feel like he knows what he’s talking about. Also the reviewer was able to describe the product well showing pictures of it and the overall quality . As for the bad review it lacked description in which it eventually turned more towards his opinion rather than fact of the overall experience.

I have narrowed down the monsters I am thinking of writing about to three:
First of all, I would like to write about the Sirens in Greek Mythology. They are monsters that lure sailors to their deaths with their beautiful looks and voices. I think that is very interesting, so I would like to learn more about them.
The second monster that I could write about would be Nahuelito, which is an Argentinian version of the Loch Ness monster, or Nessie. It also resides in water, and is a serpentine like creature that terrorizes sailors or swimmers.
The last monster that I could write about would be the Adze of African mythology. The Adze takes the shape of a firefly, and can suck blood and spread disease. However, if the monster is captured it will turn into a human and eat your organs.

After reading the Hunger Games EW Review by Lisa Schwarzbaum, I believe that Lisa does acknowledge her audience as people who have watched Hunger Games or even people who have heard of it. She makes it clear that she is reviewing the movie and not the book, and this is shown in the first paragraph. Lisa establishes that the movie needed to be much like the book in order to succeed, since the book was a “literary sensation”. She does address a few differences in the movie, such as Peeta’s movie character, who is much more calm and nice than he is in the books. The other difference she pointed out would be that Gale’s character was not shown to be in love with Katniss, so there was not much of a love triangle. It seems that the author’s grade of the movie compared with the book is an A, but the book does show a much deeper aspect to the fights, and the psychological side of the story.

I used rate my professor as the evaluation source to find some good evaluations and some bad ones. I found a great evaluation for my online English teacher last semester. One person said “Great teacher ,took English 1A online class that was short term in the fall, something due almost every night and quizzes for each week but she gives you chances to fix assignments and resubmit along with the quizzes to get extra credit for the questions you missed. Pretty easy, just stay focused and dont procrastinate.” This person also rated her 5 stars. I think this is a good evaluation because the student covered all the parts of the class without leaving anything out. A bad evaluation I found was for a Spanish teacher I had one year at Crafton. The student said “This professor is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. His expectations are ridiculous. I will avoid any classes that he teaches.” This was definitely a bad evaluation because the student did not mention anything else besides the teacher having high expectations. The student did not mention the work load, quizzes, homework, makeup work, attendance policy, or any part of the class that would be useful for someone to know. Personally, I really enjoyed that teacher and worked hard to get a good grade in his class.

QW1- I’m thinking about doing my essay on Sirens, which are the mermaid (demi human) type creatures that sing to lure men to their death. They originated from Greek mythology. A second option of a monster would be the Kraken also another sailor story.
QW2- Lisa Schwarzbaum’s review on The Hunger Games doesn’t address a direct audience and seemed to mostly recap and summarize the movie. Lisa does compare the movie to the book briefly by saying “The movie shows how, but the book shows why.” Books often do describe characters and other details that may not be portrayed in the movie. Movies can be visual representations of what that director pulled from their vision of what the book portrayed to them. She gave it an A, which many people can agree/ disagree with. Her criteria seemed biased and based on her opinion.
QW3- For the evaluation review I decided to do the Kopper Kettle Kafe restaurant in Yucaipa. They have an overall review of 4.5. A good review I saw was from a Jan who gave them a five star and said “Awesome, home cooking style food. Breakfast all day. Great ambiance. Personable staff. Worth the trip!” and then added about 13 different photos with pictures of some of their food, and interior of the restaurant. I think this is a good review even though it was brief. It was straight to the point and not only covered the overall feel of the restaurant, but also mentioned how the staff and type of food was. While creating evidence by submitting several pictures. A bad evaluation I found for the same restaurant said, “Corned beef and hash is not what you think but still good,” This comment seems very biased. Just because it wasn’t what they had in mind doesn’t mean that other people are picturing the same thing. This is based on personal preferences, with an already set expectation.

• Schwarzbaum takes the time to briefly explain The Hunger Games, making me believe she was writing to an intended audience who has no prior knowledge of the series. Schwarzbaum’s mission was to conduct an analysis of the characters of the movie/books and how well their roles were played by the actors. Author also provides her own opinion on the series which is positive, calling it a “Literal sensation” (Schwarzbaum). Authors criteria to depict whether the roles and movie were done well by: expressiveness, character effectiveness in the movie vs. book, how highlighted the love triangle is in the movie vs. book. Much of the criteria was in her own opinion comparing how well the movie portrayed the book. Overall, it’s apparent Schwarzbaum gives this series a grade A and seems to be a huge fan of the series (understandable)!

Article written by Avery Hartman’s, Hartman’s begins by explaining the iPhone 11 has thus far been the best phone s/he has every owned, while also being the most problematic. Hartman’s review was not adequate because s/he did not provide information on why the device is “problematic” in regard to functionality, simply making their claim based on appearance and size… Hartman’s last iPhone owned was an iPhone 6s- considering there has been drastic changes to the iPhone since the 6s, the change in appearance and size should have been expected, making the review much less credible.

‘The Hunger Games’: EW Review
Lisa Schwarzbaum is reviewing “The Hunger Games” movie.
* Does she acknowledge what her mission is and who her audience is?
Her mission was to give an honest review without being overly opinionated. Granted a review is an opinion but she also acknowledged her audience of being possible book lovers, who might not be as convinced or just movie buffs would enjoy the film without the psychological reasons in the book.
* What criteria does she establish for it to succeed?
She uses he intro to give a basic synopsis of the story to provide readers with a general understanding of her article. She moves forward into individual main characters of the book and compares them to the actors portraying the character, and discusses how the movie and book meet different goals in the “how” and “why.”
* Does she address any differences between the book and movie?
She addresses the movie shows how certain things in the story came to be but the book addresses more of the psychological intensity than the films.
* What is her grade or judgment of the movie?
Overall, I think her judgment of the film is she takes it for face value. It’s good film overall but Fan of the book may share similar views in regards to the story telling our acting.

The author of the article by Daniel Kreiger depicts the whole experience at the restaurant, from sitting down to look at the menu to the language used to describe his meal. In this review of Hunger Games I think her mission is to basically explain what exactly the movie is about and she does a great job at that. She really focuses on one character which is Katniss, the main person in this movie and that’s good but when reviewing other characters she just gives us a brief description of who they are and how they relate to katniss. In her review she doesn’t really state who her audience is or hints at who her audience is. The criteria she establishes for it to succeed is built around Katniss, and how this character is very badass which isn’t really credible to me to make a movie be great or not great. She does address a difference between the book and the movie and that difference is Peeta in the movie they do make him out to be a very nice guy who kind’ve just takes abuse in a way from people and lets himself get talked to however, and not really standing up for himself. In the movie she makes it seem as if Peeta is just a push over compared to the book where he is a little more rough around the edges. Her grade of the movie was an A.

The review that I chose was a review made by a person who dined at Cielo, a steakhouse in Casino Morongo that is at the very top of the casin this customer stated The restaurant is beautiful. Howard, our server made us feel really comfortable with our selections for the night. This is the first time my boyfriend and I dined at a fancy restaurant. We are relatively young compared to the other customers. I liked how I didn’t feel intimidated by the environment.
The steak was cooked to perfection. It didn’t even need steak sauce to compliment it. The lamb has good flavor. I paired it with the Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon. Our favorites would have to be the twice baked potato and the warm butter cake. Highly recommend those two if you are planning to dine here. What makes this evaluation good is that it’s quick to the point and goes over how the food is good. The service is great as well and they don’t feel intimidated eating at a fancy restaurant due to great service. This next review is an example of a bad review this customer stated: was not satisfied at all, terrible everything. Will NOT be back here anytime soon. Food took almost an hour and a half, shitty servers that didn’t help me half the time. y’all don’t deserve a good rating. For me to get a bad review on a place it has to be everything bad in general. Although good service is important to enjoying your dining experience I believe the food is what should really give a place a good or bad review. This next review was completely different. It said, “I’ve ordered take out here a few times and every time I did the food wouldn’t be ready til 20-30 minutes after my promised time.
I decided to try out curbside where they bring the food out to you.
Worst mistake ever.
Worst experience ever.
We called to say we were there and the female said it’s not ready yet but they’ll bring it out when it is.
No problem. 20 minutes later (when our promise time was)
I called and she said someone will bring it out in just a moment.
Another 15 minutes later.
I decided to walk in.
One female says it wasn’t ready. One female turned around and the one who said it wasn’t ready asked her if she knew where my order was. It was on the shelf for the past twenty minutes…
I could see my order through the window this whole time I just didn’t know it was mine.
I asked if she knew how long this was sitting out and they said no.
Got in my car and started driving.
Everything we ordered was COLD.
I’m never one to complain but the food was almost $50. And I waited so long.
I went inside and asked to speak to a manager. I told her my food was cold. Everything was cold. She said she’ll remake it and at first offered me a dessert. No. I just want what I paid for. The manager offered to take off one item off my receipt after I asked for a refund. One item? When EVERYTHING was cold.
I didn’t want to make a bigger deal out of it so I said okay fine.
Waited another 20 minutes.
The food was the same food that was given back…
I know because I dropped some fries in the bag and the same amount was given back minus the fries that fell out.
The food got cold in literally 3 minutes.
I paid for cold food and returned food?
Really?
Worst experience I’ve ever had.” This review was detailed and gave every part of her experience to be able to give this place a bad review. When I read reviews I make sure to read the ones that give a ton of information to determine whether its good or bad. I don’t believe you can give an opinion on such a small amount of information.

Quickwrite 1: Haven’t really put much thought into it as I was deciding between like 10 characters and 2 of those were made up characters that my dad told us. So I narrowed it down to 3. The first one is Hitler, the second one is dexter from that tv show and the last one would be the reverse flash from the comic books and/or tv show
Quickwrite 2: –Her mission was to clarify the difference between the movie and the book. Telling us what each character is about and how they differ from the book and the movie. Her audience wasn’t that clear but for me I think she’s talking to the fans of the book. –The criteria she has set to be succeeded was when she explains the difference between the book and the movie and how one is more intense than the other. She compares and contrasts really well between the two. The intro to her writing is what helped a lot as it brought the reader’s attention to what she was saying –She does address differences between the two as the movie shows us how it’s done and the book tells why it’s done –For what I found is that she gave is an A
Quickwrite 3: One bad example I can think of is RateMyProfessor as I had one class with a teacher but that teacher changed the first day of school. So I decided to look her up and saw bad reviews about her but none that actually gave detail about her. One said she was mean and that’s it but when I took the class she was nice and had some strict rules but she was my favorite math teacher i’ve had in a long time. A good review I saw was when I was living in Utah and I really loved a restaurant called Tucanos. I didnt write any reviews yet and will go back when I move back up there but here’s a review I found that gave a great explanation for it, “We recently traveled into Salt Lake to try Tucano’s for the first time and we were not disappointed! The food was so fresh and flavorful, the salad bar had a plethora of choices, and the lemonade was delicious. Lunch prices are an amazing deal! All of the staff were exceptionally friendly, including our sever Mike. He went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful! We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in town.” They gave great detail about the food and the server and really enjoyed the food they were given.

1. I have always had a love for Japanese horror. I just find it to have different complexities than European or American horror and it brings me in in such intriguing ways. The mystery behind so many of the creatures has always sent a chill down my spine. Rather than just being a plain threat you come across in the forest in the middle of the night, many of the stories I’ve heard are ones that tend to be caused by summonings, unsolved mysterious hallucinations, or by angering the monster in some way. The horror often seen in these I find to be more detailed in grotesque ways with unusual bodily distortions or unique humanoids or monstrosities I could have never conjured up in my own mind. Some of my personal favorites include: Oiwa, Hanako, and the Kappa.
The author is conveying the plot of the movie to the audience and mentioning the excitement she sees in the film. Her audience is not very clear but it seems to be aimed towards younger people or those who are a fan of the series or action. She uses several descriptive words to make her descriptions sound exciting and filled with intense emotions. She talks about how the movie is overall very well made and does a fantastic job of depicting the characters and filling the scenes full of exciting and suspenseful moments that contain tensions in relationships and violence. She mentions the movie leaves out some details from the book and doesn’t make all of the characters entirely accurate, like Peeta for example. The movie shows how things happened but unlike the book, it does not explain why certain things happened. She said she loves the movie and gave it an A.
I had found rating on a professor I had taken last semester. Many of the reviews are 1-2 stars and I’d say the evaluations are done rather well since there is use of good grammar, things they disliked but not containing insults towards her, and a good use of vocabulary. I had also found reviews on the place I worked for my first job. Many of the reviews were inconsistent but I noticed quite a few contained grammatical errors, improper tones, unclear desires or issues, and there seemed to have been misunderstandings from both ends. For example people would complain that the wait was too long on a weekend but would wait for a table anyway then left a complaint that the food took longer than 10-15 minutes. For those who have worked in this industry, it’s pretty normal for a full hot plate of food at a sit down restaurant to take 15 minutes or so and it may take longer if there is numerous orders ahead of that one. With my experience working there, I do recall many of the customers did not understand what it’s like in restaurant backrooms/kitchens and that things are often slower if there is too many customers and too little tables.

What monster are you thinking or writing about? Narrow it down to 2 or 3 that you would be interested in learning more about.
-This lesson has been something I have been looking forward to since we began the semester. There are so many different monsters to chose from and all that have different meanings. One of the three would be Ted Bundy. Even though he is not a monster from a fantasy or a form of fiction, he is human with monstrous traits. He was able to seduce women with his charms then murder them in cold blood. He is what people call a monster, a psychopath. It is personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits sometimes a sociopath. Two of the three monsters would be Hamilton Howard “Albert” Fish also known as Albert Fish, the Moon Maniac, the Brooklyn Vampire and much more. Fish was serial killer, child rapist and cannibal. He would also be considered a monster to me. He pleaded innocent by reason of insanity when he was on trial claiming it was the voices in his head that told him to kill children and commit other horrendous crimes. He was insane. I mean who wouldn’t think him or Ted Bundy were monsters with the harm and fear they brought to the public? The fear Fish instilled in parents and families. The fear Bundy inflicted to scare women or to seduce and manipulate them in a way. The third monster I am looking into is a Banshee. A Banshee is a female spirit and is considered to be an omen of death. It is said that the banshee roams the countryside and can be heard wailing when she predicts a death. They all seem very interesting to look deeper into and write about.

‘The Hunger Games’: EW Review
Does she acknowledge what her mission is and who her audience is?
– She does acknowledge what her mission is and who she is writing to. In the article her mission is to catch the audience, to draw them in with a brief statement of what the movie actually is.
What criteria does she establish for it to succeed?
-She uses he intro to gives an abstract of The Hunger Games to provide the readers with a decent and basic understanding of the article she wrote.
Does she address any differences between the book and movie?
-Lisa Schwarzbaum adresses that in the book the edges rough up Peeta with his amiability. On the screen he’s been changed into a sensitive good guy.
What is her grade or judgment of the movie?
– Her grade for the movie was an “A”.

Find an evaluation of a restaurant or professor that you think is done well and one that is done badly. What makes it good? What makes the evaluation bad?
– We evaluate everyone and everything on a daily basis. My evaluation would be on two professors I had in the past few semesters. So I will start off with my old psychology professor Dr. Hightower at San Bernardino Valley College. She is an amazing professor. When it comes to a lesson, she explains in detail and in ways you can understand what the lesson is about so you don’t get confused. She takes time to answer questions and puts in effort to connect with students. She’s very understanding and is lenient. I had her for three different psychology classes and I passed each one because she made me feel like it was okay to ask questions and participate in class without any sort of judgment. A bad example of a professor would be Professor/Dr. Victor for Chem 101. I took him in the summer and barely passed with a ‘C’. During his lectures/labs when someone would raise their hand to ask a question he would make them feel stupid and expect us to know the answer. He didn’t explain anything in detail or take the time to. He rushed everything. Anything that we saw on the powerpoint weren’t on the exams.

The monster that I want to write about is called Parrallax, a comic book character from the 90’s. He was a space cop that turned bad due his hometown being destroyed by a villain. He was one of the best space cops that the universe had until he went rouge. Parrallax tries to gain power to try and reset the universe so that he can bring his people back from the dead. Darth Vader is another character I would like to learn about. I would like to learn why he is such a big deal in pop culture and how he became the most famous monster to ever been created.

Lisa Schawarzbaum acknowledges her mission in trying to get readers of the book to see that the movie is just as good as the book. Her audience are people who read the book and young adults that are into a thrilling adventure. The criteria she used to get readers to be interested in the movie is the book itself from where the source came from. She tries to compare the movie to the book to show that the movie did justice to the book. She addressed the difference of Josh Hutcherson’s portrayal of Peeta. She talk about how he is portrayed differently in the book than in the movie. In order for me to properly grade her, I would need to read and watch the movie itself.

One evaluation of a restaurant that I found is done by Ava R. in a Yelp review for Lana Brava, a Mexican gourmet restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. What makes the review good is that she provides detailed information of how her experience once dinning in there. She details the service and her satisfaction with the customer service. She also provides photos to help readers know how good the restaurant is.
A bad evaluation I found is from Pete Wells who is reviewing “Guys American Kitchen & Bar.” He does a bad job in reviewing the place because its mostly opinionated instead of factual. Most of the review is him ranting about how bad the food is.

The monsters I’m thinking about include Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men, Joker from The Dark Knight, and Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs. I like these monsters because they have been formed out of modern fears of unpredictability and psychopathic tendencies. These monsters are very real and Chigurh and Joker have even been argued to be the manifested fear many had after 9-11. I find this very interesting.
Quick Write 2:
Schwarzburn mentions her audience to be those who read the book and/or those interested in seeing the movie as she argues for the movie to be a quality representation of the book. She establishes the movie’s success on whether or not it serves as an entertaining, but also faithful adaptation for the popular novel it is based on. Schwarzburn addresses many differences between the book and movie including the characterization of Peta and as well as the specifics behind motives in characters. These differences are kept widely vague to avoid major spoilers. Her grade on the film is an A. She concludes that although the book is much deeper in explaining the “why” of it’s characters, the film serves a suitable and thrilling adaptation.
Quick Write 3:
Many of the ratings for professors were pretty poor as they didn’t provide much explanation or in depth details to their conclusions. A decent rating I found stated the reasoning behind their claims; including that the professor understood the material very well and offered a lot of help for the students. This was a good rating.
There’s equally a lot of bad reviews on Yelp. One particular review, for a restaurant called Chicken as Cluck, was really bad as the reviewer exclaimed vague statements about how disappointed they were but stated no specifics as to why they felt this way. It was more of a mindless rant than a concise and clearly established position.

I think she does explain who her audience is right when she starts writing “young people” and also later one she says fans and moviegoers. Lisa criteria is explain how the movie is horrifying vision of near future in which teenagers are in peril is sickening but yet the individual heroism is trilling and worth watching and read the book. She explains how the movie is different when she says best of all the movie effectively showcases the allure of the story’s remarkable, kick-ass 16-year-old heroine, Katniss Everdeen. And also explains how the book talks about Josh Hetcherson as Peeta and how he is interesting edges rough up his niceness; he’s not quite so easy to peg. But “on screen he’s been sanded down to a generic sensitive good guy so much that its difficult to understand why Katniss is prickly around him” states Schwarzbaum. Her Grade I would say A but books always give more details then the movies do in my opinion.

I think the Pizza or any industries that have been going online ordering has been a great investment but also so much easier for people whom are working at this restaurants. I love how Pizza hut shows you on their app how far along is the pizza from when you order it. One thing they do need to update is on is if the customer has a special request on their food have more places to put specific request. On pizzas app I can only put about 50 words in the comments, and sometimes there more than one request for each food plater. So that would be something they could improve on.

I have been really interested in werewolves, yeti, and bigfoot. I just wonder if people actually have seen people transform into wolves or the other way around. It is possible that they could have been on drugs or just crazy. Bigfoot and the yeti seem like the same thing to me but since i live in the forest in lake arrowhead I know people that have seen and heard bigfoot before.
Lisa tries to represent that her audience is people that are reading the books and trying to convince them to go to see the movie. she establishes the criteria to it succeed in that the book matches the big events in the movie and it follows the book very well. She addresses that people in the book and in the movie have some differences. The book has more detail and portrays katniss’s mission to survive as getting back to her sister as they don’t to that in the movie. Her judgment of the book is that she thinks it is good and is trying to convince others to go watch it.
I am going to talk about some of the reviews off of yelp on a restaurant called Papagayo’s. The reviews seem to be really detailed while others are not. This one review is talking about how bad the place was with her seeing what the servers were doing as a server sat down with some of her friends and took a sip of wine and took so long they had to go over there to ask her to take their order. Going into detail how bad the place is with horrible serves and how bad the food was that they couldn’t eat it.

I have already decided what monster I am going to write about. One of my favorite horror writers, Junji Ito, has illustrated and written a graphic horror novel based around a monster named Tomie, who drives men and women alike to commit horrible acts of violence out of jealousy and rage. I have always found Junji Ito’s interpretation of horror very interesting and different from other types of typical horror these days, so that is why I want to continue researching his graphic novels.

The author does a very good job summarizing the Hunger Games without giving too much of the plot away and acknowledges the fact that the audience reading the review may have yet to see the movie. However, while she gives a glowing review of the cast and visuals in the movie, her opinion of the movie’s plot and adaptation is unbiased. She claims it is up to the viewer to decide whether or not the movie captures the book’s tension. Overall, her evaluation of the Hunger Games is very positive and encourages viewers to give it a chance whether or not they have read the book.

I decided to choose two reviews from Yelp! On a local restaurant in Redlands.
Poor Review:
It’s an ok place for sushi. Not too shabby. It’s definitely a nice location, too. It’s located across the parking area from the movie theater, too. The food is average with quality and all. Although I was not happy when a waitress handed me the bill versus my male friend. That’s one thing I noticed about the etiquette of being a server, you do not hand the lady the bill. I was a waitress once. I’m an old-fashioned gal, now I don’t mind paying for a man I wanted to dine with every so often. But I don’t need someone to force me into. Well, that’s why I didn’t give them 5 stars.
This is poorly done because it focuses purely on the service. While service is an important part of a restaurant, it should not equal a bad review especially since the writer is taking offense over detail the waiter more than likely did not even pick up on. The author also barely comments on the food and says nothing more than that it was okay.
Good Review:
This Place was originally Ocean Blue. We have been there a few times. Their sushi is not bad considering we are in the IE. Prices are similar. They have a small sushi bar that can accommodate around 10. Most people sit at the tables. They have been able to accommodate a group of 10. But that would probably be the largest group.
Sushi is pretty good. Salmon cuts are generous and always fatty. They have a nice selection of rolls. Be careful of the jalapeño. Ours were really spicy. No complimentary soup or edamame beans to my knowledge.
Nothing terribly fancy about this place. But if you are looking for basic sushi, this just might do it.
This review is much better compared to the last. It gives a good amount of information about the restaurant and the food. It is also informative and helpful, giving other readers a good idea of what to expect when going here while listing some of the pros and cons of eating there as well. Although it is not a glowing review, it is honest, which many who look through the reviews will appreciate.
