Is Smoking A Cigarette Worth It?

I am sure everyone can agree that cigarettes are bad for you right? I don’t think smokers really know how bad cigarettes can really affect you and those around you. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) annually there are 480,000 deaths due to smokers. On top of that the CDC also states that there are more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. So, is smoking a cigarette really worth it in the long run? I’m sure no one wants to die all because of a cancer stick.

There are so many signs out there that smokers should really take into consideration. Such as billboard signs, commercials, even the simple no smoking signs that are up almost everywhere. I am sure everyone has seen at least one sign against smoking. If smokers only knew the damage that they are doing to themselves and even to there loved ones then maybe they would quit but they don’t even with all the signs that are thrown at them. Even on some boxes of cigarettes there are pictures of rats and other things that are put into them and even then, no one takes the hint.

In 2016 it was recorded that 15.5% of all American adult’s smoke cigarettes. It may not seem that high but that is about 37.8 million people in the united states. Of that large number 17.5% are male smokers are 13.5% are female smokers. There are many alternatives to smoking such as vaping that could possibly cut those numbers down significantly. And if cigarette smokers changed to vaping the death rate due to cigarettes would also drop. Vape juice only has 3 ingredients that aren’t harmful witch are propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and nicotine which is way better then smoking all the harmful chemicals that are put into cigarettes to make them even more addicting so I am sure everyone can agree that vaping would be a way better alternative then smoking tobacco and all the chemicals that are put into them.

According to the CDC 75,000 died from alcohol 20,000 died from illegal drug use and 25,000 died from motor vehicle crashes. With all that being said you can add up those numbers and it is still a less number of people that die a year then deaths caused by smoking cigarettes. Smokers really need to open up their eyes and realize how much it really affects them. Maybe if they took a little bit of their own time to research about smoking it would change their perspective on smoking. But 9 out of 10 times smokers won’t look it up because they are already addicted to having at least 1 through 20 cigs per day maybe even more. Even as a child seeing my father smoke cigarettes he would average about 1 and a half boxes of cigs a day that’s about 25 to 30 cigs a day. Real smokers really do finish at least a box per day. In the long run smokers actually die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers. Wouldn’t you rather not smoke and live to spend time with your loved ones for an extra 10 years than pass away and loose out on time for yourself or your family?

Most smokers actually do want to quit but they can’t because they are too hooked in the chemicals and they feel an erg to go out and smoke one. Smokers don’t even feel comfortable if they don’t have a cigarette to smoke. That must be a real crappy feeling right? Its proven that 7 out of 10 smokers want to quit but they have been doing it so long that they actually can’t. That is the exact reason why I brought up vaping as a better alternative. That reason is because you still get to smoke and get the nicotine buzz but don’t get all extra horrible chemicals that are put into cigarettes. People have even put cigarettes and vaping to the test just by using a simple tissue and blowing the smoke from the cigarette into the tissue and you see a gross brown color residue left on the tissue and as to vaping you can blow the smoke and nothing is left on the tissue just a bit of moisture but that is expected since vaping is just the same as water vapor.

It really is crazy to think that smoking doesn’t affect only adults. it also affects kids under the age of 18. there are thousands of younger people that start smoking at least 1 cigarette per day. the CDC states that each day, more than 3,200 people younger than 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette. Also, an estimated 2,100 youth and young adults who have been occasional smokers become daily cigarette smokers. These children and young adults probably only smoke because they are trying to be cool around their friends but they don’t realize that is actually hurting them more then they think. I am not saying that kids should vape at all, they shouldn’t even be putting anything into their lugs. As for adults that do have the smoking problem it is a way healthier alternative.

Overall what I am trying to get to is the fact that smoking is really bad for your health and not just your own but everyone around you. If we could all try and help out at least one person that smokes it would help them out and their loved ones. we all know at least one person who smokes so why not show them the affects it has on their own body and on the people around them. I am sure they would appreciate the help and actually try out vaping as a heathier alternative then to be smoking all the harsh chemicals that are put into cigarettes. If so these high death rate numbers due to smoking would drop significantly. So, go out and help at least one person and I am sure if they listen, in the long run they will thank you for helping the reduce their cigarette habit.
